What you'll do

  • Develop and execute the regional compliance strategy in alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Provide executive oversight of affordable housing compliance programs across multiple states and regulatory agencies.
  • Anticipate legislative and regulatory changes and proactively implement compliance strategies.
  • Drive innovation through technology, automation, and process improvements.
  • Lead enterprise-wide compliance initiatives, policy implementation, and special projects.
  • Partner with executive leadership to support strategic growth, acquisitions, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local affordable housing regulations including LIHTC, HUD, USDA Rural Development, HOME, and local housing programs.
  • Interpret complex regulatory requirements and communicate implementation strategies across the organization.
  • Oversee compliance reporting, audits, agency responses, and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Establish standardized compliance practices across all regions.
  • Monitor overall compliance health through reporting, analytics, and executive dashboards.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance compliance operations.
  • Standardize policies, procedures, and best practices across the region.
  • Oversee compliance metrics, KPI reporting, and performance analytics.
  • Implement digital tools that improve reporting accuracy, transparency, and operational efficiency.
  • Identify trends and implement preventative solutions that reduce organizational risk.
  • Serve as the executive point of contact for clients, regulatory agencies, and senior leadership regarding complex compliance matters.
  • Foster long-term partnerships with agency representatives and industry organizations.
  • Deliver strategic guidance that balances regulatory requirements with operational effectiveness.
  • Navigate complex multi-state regulatory environments while maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Lead crisis communication and conflict resolution efforts involving compliance matters.
  • Build, mentor, and lead high-performing regional compliance teams.
  • Establish accountability, performance expectations, and professional development plans.
  • Coach leaders through regular feedback and leadership development initiatives.
  • Promote collaboration, engagement, and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Support succession planning and organizational development initiatives.
  • Identify systemic compliance risks before they impact operations.
  • Develop long-term solutions that reduce legal, financial, and operational exposure.
  • Lead investigations and resolution of complex compliance issues.
  • Support due diligence for acquisitions and troubled assets.
  • Ensure appropriate internal controls and governance practices are maintained.
  • Perform additional duties or take on additional responsibilities at the request of a supervisor.

What they require

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Real Estate, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive affordable housing compliance experience.
  • 7+ years of leadership experience managing multi-state compliance teams.
  • Preferred: Executive leadership experience.
  • Experience leading organizational change initiatives.
  • Extensive knowledge of LIHTC, HUD, USDA Rural Development, HOME, as well as state and local affordable housing programs.
  • Thorough understanding of federal and state compliance regulations.
  • Experience interpreting complex regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of compliance reporting systems and compliance technology.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position and may be subject to additional compliance requirements.
