Senior reinsurance treaty drafting expert with 8+ years of legal/commercial contract drafting experience and 5+ years in reinsurance. Must have a paralegal degree or BA/BS, be able to draft complex reinsurance treaties, and lead peer reviews. US-based (Chesterfield, MO HQ, remote eligible).

What you'll do

  • Research, design and/or create the most complex treaties (whether client prepared or RGA drafted) which include advanced reinsurance concepts and capture all the details of a reinsurance transaction in one document.
  • Ensure treaties comply with State and Federal insurance regulations and corporate contract standards and identify differences and escalate to Legal counsel.
  • Act as the lead in organizing and coordinating team peer reviews within the Department to ensure adherence to RGA business guidelines and legal protocols.
  • Assist in planning, setting of goals and ensuring the objectives of the department are met.
  • Coordinate with SMEs the preparation of and review of all monthly reports for accuracy before submitting to executives for timely review.
  • Recommend and participate in the development and implementation of process improvements that may extend beyond area of oversight and with the approval of RGA Operations Leadership.
  • Coach, train and mentor team members, and all new staff.
  • Own and drive resolution on meetings within the department, with internal associates from other areas of RGA, to orchestrate client calls and occasionally meet with visiting clients in person.
  • Actively communicate with clients via phone and e-mail, to establish rapport and contribute to internal client-facing metrics and develop meaningful relationships with client companies, establish regular touch-point meetings/calls, and seek positive resolution to issues.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and resource to both associates and management for treaty interpretation/questions and act as the department lead.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, such as cross-training other team members, support of general staff, participation in special project work, and investigative research with other internal business unit areas.

  • Paralegal degree Required or Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) or equivalent related experience Required
  • 8+ Years legal, commercial contract or document drafting experience Required
  • 5+ years reinsurance industry experience Required
  • Advanced ability to comprehend, interpret and compose highly complex treaty language, and apply appropriately. Required
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills and excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Required
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly convey legal and business terminology and concepts and to translate business needs and problems into viable and acceptable solutions. Required
  • High organizational skills, ability to multi-task (manage multiple projects), and meet tight deadlines. Required
  • Independent work ethic, yet ability to coordinate projects as a team leader and foster teamwork within a customer-focused environment. Required
  • Progress toward FLMI, ARA or other relevant professional accreditation Preferred
  • 1+ year experience as a senior technical lead or team leader Preferred
  • Progress toward FLMI, ARA or other relevant professional accreditation Preferred
