Technical Lead for a UK-based remote-first product team, with monthly travel to London. Needs a proven Senior Engineer background, strong product partnership experience, architectural decision-making, mentoring, and hands-on software delivery.

What you'll do

  • Partner with the Product Manager as the team's technical counterpart, finding lean ways to move team metrics while meeting technical governance needs.
  • Pressure-test priorities and approach, and shape what gets built using technical and business knowledge.
  • Represent technology in product and roadmap conversations, including technical goals, non-functional requirements, and technical investments needed to keep the team moving.
  • Work with Staff Engineers to align the team's work with Unmind's longer-term technical direction across domains.
  • Own the technical direction of the team, including architecture, day-to-day technical decisions, and technical risk.
  • Ensure what is built progresses toward Unmind's broader technology direction.
  • Own the technical quality of the team's work by reviewing technical plans, raising technical thinking, and making sure shipped work functions as intended.
  • Own the technical sequencing of the team's work, including work breakdown, dependencies, and risks.
  • Act as the first point of contact for the Engineering Manager when the team's technical work affects project-level delivery.
  • Build alongside the team by taking on complex work, raising the quality bar, and mentoring engineers on craft.
  • Use Claude Code throughout the workflow for scoping, designing, coding, reviewing, and documenting.
  • Share AI workflow learnings back to the team.

What they require

  • Proven track record as a Senior Engineer in product-focused teams.
  • Experience designing and shipping complex software.
  • Experience making architectural decisions.
  • Experience raising the bar of engineers through review and mentoring.
  • Strong track record of partnering with Product Managers or similar product leadership roles.
  • Ability to shape what gets built rather than only executing briefs, using technical and business knowledge in product conversations.
  • Product and business mindset, including understanding business context, thinking in terms of user and business outcomes, and connecting technical decisions to value.
  • Experience making technical trade-offs with confidence, including knowing when to optimise for pace, invest in quality, and push back on scope or approach.
  • Comfortable communicating technical context to non-engineers in writing and in person.
  • Comfortable working with Product Managers, business stakeholders, and the wider organisation.
  • Able to operate with sound judgement and independence.
  • Able to make good calls with imperfect information, know when to involve others, and manage time between hands-on work and leadership.
  • UK-based and able to travel monthly to London.
