What you'll do

  • Developing and supporting the management of our existing development servers – these are physical machines running Linux (CentOS, Rocky Linux, Xen Enterprise and Ubuntu) and MacOS.
  • Working with the Infrastructure Technical Director, Technical Leads, and COO to develop and implement a scalable server, network and storage strategy as the company grows.
  • Installing and managing our industry specific tooling and configuring systems to manage jobs across a small computing cluster.
  • Developing and managing monitoring, alerting, and logging frameworks to proactively identify and resolve system bottlenecks.
  • Supporting the management of our network infrastructure and IT security across the company.
  • Working with the rest of the Infrastructure Team to maintain and develop comprehensive documentation of the environment.
  • Working with our suppliers to procure new equipment (such as servers and switches) when required.
  • Helping our team with technical IT queries when they arise.
  • Helping to maintain our certifications, including Cyber Essentials and the IT focussed parts of ISO 27001.

What they require

  • You have great Linux administration skills (including Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian based distributions).
  • You have experience building Docker images and running their associated CI jobs.
  • You are hands-on – you’re comfortable scripting, configuring, and installing things.
  • You are experienced in network security – including configuration of firewalls and appropriate security policies.
  • You are organised and like to document your work and the systems that you build (we use Google Workspace and Atlassian tools).
  • You like collaborating with other engineers, are empathetic to colleagues’ problems, and can help tailor policies and processes in this regard.
  • You are keen to explore new technologies and ways of working, such as using AI to help solve problems.
  • You have great attention to detail.
  • You like getting stuff done, building and improving things, and have a ‘no job too small’ attitude.
  • You are creative in problem solving but conservative in change management.
  • You have a ‘keep it simple’ engineering mindset.
