Staff Software Engineer (Full-Stack)

ABOUT THIS ROLE

We're hiring a Staff or Principal Software Engineer at Found. This is a high-impact, full-stack role where you’ll drive technical decisions across the company, raise the bar for how we build, and help senior engineers grow.

You'll work across product teams, partner closely with engineering managers and their tech leads, influence how we build across the organization and have ownership over outcomes. You’ll be technically hands-on, and your biggest impact will come from technical judgement and the leadership you bring to decisions that impact the engineering team

WHAT YOU'LL DO

SET TECHNICAL DIRECTION FOR THE COMPANY

• Drive key technical decisions that shape how multiple teams build
• Identify and address reliability, performance, or scalability issues before they become incidents, at a systems level rather than just within a single team
• Build and iterate on customer-facing features in our core product using Ruby on Rails, React, and TypeScript, staying close enough to the code to make well-grounded calls
• Work across the stack: backend APIs, data modeling in MySQL and Spanner, and polished frontend experiences

RAISE THE BAR ACROSS TEAMS

• Partner with engineering leads to align technical direction across the company, not just within a single team
• Establish patterns, conventions, and standards that make the codebase easier to work in over time, and drive adoption of them across teams
• Contribute to reducing technical debt in a way that's practical and unblocks business goals
• Bring clarity to ambiguous, cross-team technical problems and help teams move forward with confidence

DEVELOP THE ENGINEERS AROUND YOU

• Act as a technical mentor and thought partner for senior engineers across teams
• Collaborate closely with engineering managers on technical planning, scoping, and team health
• Help engineers grow through pairing, code review, and design conversations

TO THRIVE IN THIS ROLE, YOU HAVE:

• 12+ years of full-stack engineering experience, with strong backend fundamentals and deep technical range
• Prior experience operating at a staff, principal, or architect level
• Production experience with Ruby on Rails or a comparable framework, and comfort in React/TypeScript on the frontend
• Experience working with relational databases at scale (MySQL, Spanner, or similar)
• A track record of leading technical decisions across multiple teams by building relationships, gaining alignment, and influencing without direct authority
• Strong communication skills: you can explain technical decisions clearly to engineers and non-engineers alike
• High standards for code quality and a habit of leaving things better than you found them

YOU MAY ALSO HAVE:

• Experience in FinTech, financial services, or products with complex compliance requirements

COMPENSATION AT FOUND

The anticipated salary range for this role is $246,000 - $284,000 (USD or CAD). The salary range listed represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position across all locations in the corresponding country. Within the range, individual pay is determined by several factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
