No BS summary

Staff-level software engineer for browser extension and capture reliability across Google Meet, Zoom, and Teams. Needs strong TypeScript/Node or fast ramp-up, end-to-end ownership of user-facing systems, and ability to reason across APIs, data flows, persistence, reliability, and observability. Must be located in Australia or New Zealand and overlap at least half a day with Sydney time.

What you'll do

  • Clarify ambiguous product and system problems with product, including the user or system failure, success metric, and smallest reversible path to learn.
  • Design and ship the extension and capture pipeline across Google Meet, Zoom, and Teams.
  • Design and ship the save path that gets each transcript into storage.
  • Roll out changes observably and either move the metric or clearly revert them.
  • Turn repetitive work into internal tools and checks that the whole team uses.
  • Run experiments by changing one thing, measuring production behaviour with Datadog and user behaviour with Mixpanel, then reverting or iterating.
  • Review designs and code.
  • Mentor engineers.
  • Reduce single-person dependencies.
  • Own reliability by design for the capture and persistence domain, including SLOs, prevention, and durability.
  • Help diagnose and remediate issues when something you own breaks.
  • Own engineering follow-ups from postmortems.

What they require

  • Deep experience owning user-facing systems end to end, ideally a browser extension (MV3) or a comparable constrained client: service workers, cross-context messaging, permissions, WebRTC, and field-only failure modes.
  • Strong TypeScript/Node, or the ability to ramp fast in a TypeScript-heavy codebase.
  • System design across APIs, data flows, reliability, and observability.
  • Ability to reason across browser, backend, and infrastructure boundaries and go deep where a project needs it.
  • Sound judgment on durable storage and data modelling.
  • Ability to design persistence that stays correct and fast as data grows.
  • Product judgment connecting technical work to activation, retention, quality, cost, or reliability.
  • Ability to use telemetry and product metrics to guide iteration.
  • Comfort becoming productive in a TypeScript-heavy system.
  • Privacy, permissions, access control, retention, and safe AI behaviour are first-class product requirements.
  • At least a half-day overlap with Sydney time.
  • Preferred: Real-time or distributed systems at scale.
  • Preferred: Native desktop experience, macOS or Windows.

Benefits

  • Autonomy-first and flexible about how you work.
  • No standing pager rotation for this role.
  • Equity in what you build.
  • Visible work and impact.
  • Small, AI-enabled team where one engineer's work goes a long way.
  • Modern tooling including Linear, Mixpanel, Datadog, Claude Code, Cursor, and other tools that earn their place.
  • Hiring process aims to go from first call to offer in about two weeks.
  • AI tools welcome in the paired coding session.
