What you'll do

  • Embed with Labs / R&D to invent specifications and capture risks before code
  • Design and execute chartered, time-boxed testing sessions and lead structured debriefs
  • Investigate failure modes not caught by checks: multi-tenant isolation, configuration interaction, concurrency, lifecycle transitions, timing, operability and observability gaps, long-horizon behaviors
  • Model risk using heuristics and maintain a living risk catalogue across policy lifecycle, claims, partner integrations, and regulatory workflows
  • Report findings as Bugs, Risks, Questions about intent, and Obstacles to testing
  • Maintain coverage and testability maps documenting what has been examined and blind spots
  • Practice bug advocacy to ensure important problems are understood and fixed
  • Partner with Product, Labs, and Engineering on Example Mapping and Specification-by-Example workshops
  • Bring oracle questions into specification work and analyze system testability
  • Identify where automated checks are insufficient and route gaps to automation/specification backlogs
  • Build and use tools for data generation, state manipulation, differential comparison, and oracle construction
  • Investigate AI-generated code, tests, and agentic workflow outputs for reliability and consistency
  • Coach engineers and Quality Engineers in testing skills, charters, and note-taking
  • Produce testing stories for release and transition decisions and contribute to release readiness and canary strategy
  • Supply failure hypotheses to non-functional verification (performance, resilience, accessibility, security, chaos)
  • Strengthen auditability for regulators and escalate compliance findings

What they require

  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience with progressively increasing responsibility in software testing and test automation
  • Demonstrated deep testing skill: modeling, oracles, heuristics, chartering, note-taking, bug advocacy
  • Around 8+ years of relevant hands-on testing experience typical for this seniority
  • Experience with decision logic and configuration-driven behavior: rules engines, eligibility/underwriting logic, pricing or calculation engines, multi-tenant configuration variation
  • Track record of finding issues missed by automated suites and explaining investigative approach
  • Experience building and leaving operational testing capability in organizations as a consultant, coach, or practice lead
  • Exceptional written communication for notes, bug reports, and testing stories
  • Comfortable using and critically evaluating agentic AI coding tools
