Horace Mann is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Product Management Analyst to support the strategy of our Life & Retirement product portfolio through competitive intelligence, market analysis and illustration systems expertise.
In this role, you’ll serve as a key resource to Product Strategy leadership by delivering market insights, facilitating product development activities, maintaining product documentation, and supporting illustration systems enhancements. You’ll work across regulatory, operational, and strategic priorities to ensure our products remain compliant, competitive, and effectively managed throughout their lifecycle.
The ideal candidate combines strong Life & Retirement product knowledge with competitive intelligence expertise, analytical thinking, and a continuous improvement mindset.
This position is open to fully remote or hybrid to one of our office locations: Springfield, IL; Plano, TX; Madison, WI; Cherry Hill, NJ.
Key Responsibilities
Competitive Intelligence & Product Strategy
- Conduct and oversee competitive analysis and industry product analytics to identify market trends and support product decisions.
- Provide insights that inform Life & Retirement product strategy, positioning, and ongoing product management.
- Partner with internal stakeholders on product initiatives and provide product expertise throughout planning and execution.
- Coordinate the monthly competitive benchmarking process for life and annuity crediting rates, including maintaining competitor benchmarking, tracking market rate actions, preparing competitive reports, and summarizing key marketplace developments for executive leadership.
- Lead the development and maintenance of competitive intelligence reports, benchmarking tools, and industry product analytics to support executive decision-making and product strategy.
- Research competitor products and identify opportunities for product enhancements, new product concepts, and strategic differentiation.
Product Strategy and Illustration Support
- Assist in the facilitation of cross-functional discussions with Product Strategy, Actuarial, Marketing, Distribution, Operations, Information Technology, and other stakeholders to gather business requirements, document decisions, and ensure alignment on product features and functionality.
- Provide support and oversight for illustration modifications and enhancements.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on assigned product strategy and product management initiatives.
Process Improvement & Development
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve competitive intelligence capabilities, product analytics, product development processes, and illustration system functionality.
- Occasional travel to industry conferences/meetings to support competitive intelligence, market research, and professional development.
- Share expertise and best practices to strengthen consistency and effectiveness across the Product Management team.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- H.S. diploma or GED equivalent required, bachelor's degree preferred**.**
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience in Life and/or Retirement product management, competitive intelligence, or product strategy.
- Strong understanding of Life & Retirement products and related regulatory requirements.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple complex priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across business functions.
Preferred
- Experience with 3rd party competitive intelligence tools and data sources.
- Experience with data analytics and visualization.
- Experience with life and retirement illustration/quoting platforms.
- Familiarity with state and Compact product filings.

Salary Range:
$76,600.00 - $106,450.00/annually + bonus.
Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.
