ABOUT THE TEAM:

Our Scaling team executes on our scaling, reliability, and enablement efforts to support our largest customers as they continue to grow. Our scope includes both scalable infrastructure, and our core backend software systems. Success means delivering just-in-time capacity, running workloads quickly, and ensuring data scalability across numerous applications, while balancing costs and addressing issues like implementation and infrastructure inefficiencies.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

You'll help tackle challenges faced by the largest cloud providers, working alongside a small, elite team on a platform that is reshaping the traditional engineering stack for the entire world. This is an opportunity to grow your skills on real-world, high-scale systems while learning from senior engineers, and to help foster an inclusive, effective, and collaborative engineering culture. This role includes after-hours/on-call availability.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU'LL:

• Contribute to the Bubble infrastructure that scales to infinitely many apps of any size and complexity
• Help improve performance and reliability across backend services, supporting our efficiency, capacity management, and data tier
• Support observability efforts across core parts of the system, helping implement SLOs and surface performance characteristics to end users
• Help support billions of requests across a platform that powers arbitrary end user applications, by building and iterating on core backbone services
• Contribute to the workflow engine and data tier, supporting high-volume ingest, export, and workflows for diverse direct-to-consumer applications
• Build foundational services and tools that support our next-generation cloud infrastructure
• Participate in our triage and on-call process (along with the rest of the engineering team) to diagnose and resolve issues, and help implement changes that prevent recurrence

ABOUT YOU:

• 2+ years of industry experience as a software engineer, preferably with experience in high-growth startups
• Strong coding skills
• Some understanding of scalable distributed systems, and a willingness to build proficiency with languages and tools such as Node.js, Rust, PostgreSQL, and Terraform (AWS experience is a plus)
• Ownership mindset, taking initiative to build and fix
• Strong problem-solving skills, with a track record of contributing to solutions that scale to complex and high-traffic applications
• Excellent communication skills to effectively partner with teammates and managers, and the ability to commit to and execute priorities
• Willingness to participate in on-call processes to help quickly diagnose and resolve issues
• Alignment with our values, including a desire to empower others, a focus on team and user success over individual achievement, and transparency and willingness to admit mistakes and failures

OUR TECH STACK:

While we do not require new hires to be experts in our tech stack on day 1, familiarity and a willingness to learn fast is helpful. Our tech stack includes:

• Frontend: Typescript, SolidJS
• Backend: Typescript, Node.js, Redis, Postgres, TimescaleDB
• Infrastructure: AWS (ECS, RDS, Elasticache), Terraform, Typescript, Rust

Compensation:

We offer competitive compensation aligned to tier one markets. Our estimated salary for this role at Bubble ranges from $145,000 to $187,000. Actual pay is determined by multiple factors such as skills, qualifications, experience and market demand.

Location:

This is a remote-friendly role open to candidates authorized to work in the U.S. Our team is based in NYC and works Eastern Time.

States we're not currently set up to employ in: AK, AL, AR, DE, HI, ID, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MT, NE, NH, NM, ND, OK, RI, SC, SD, VT, WV, WY. If you're in one of these states but open to relocating to NYC, we'd still love to hear from you.

If you'd like to join us in New York, we're happy to help with relocation. We prefer hiring within commuting distance of our Manhattan office because we value getting together in person regularly — folks who come in enjoy catered lunches, team events, and other perks.
