What you'll do

  • Underwrite short-term trade insurance applications
  • Act on behalf of the Head of the STI Unit
  • Coach and mentor junior staff as required
  • Analyse and interpret financial statements, management accounts, and financial models
  • Lead the deal team in coordinating visits, required transaction information, transaction structure negotiations, commercial term assessment, applications, and related documents to reach financial close
  • Evaluate information to determine risk levels for the cover being assessed and support transactions that meet ECIC mandate and credit requirements
  • Assess technical feasibility, commercial feasibility, financial and credit worthiness, environmental and social aspects, anti-bribery issues, sanctionable entities, and corporation policies
  • Prepare high-quality submissions for ECIC approval committees including Project EXCO, FIIC Committee, and/or Board
  • Develop and maintain relationships within the organisation, exporters, lenders, short-term trade insurers and reinsurers, export credit agencies, and other export business institutions
  • Identify new business opportunities for ECIC with special focus on short-term trade insurance in collaboration with the business development team
  • Assess commercial and political risks in transactions and determine whether risks should be covered and under what terms and conditions
  • Present and support transactions to ECIC approval committees including Project EXCO, Finance Investment and Insurance Committee, and/or Board
  • Negotiate transactions, structure and review commercial terms in finance documents, security documents, and related documents
  • Interact with the Portfolio Management team regarding approved transactions post cover as required
  • Carry out the corporate strategic plan and business goals of the new short-term trade insurance business unit
  • Collaborate with Risk, Business Development, Portfolio Management, PEAR, Actuarial, Legal Services, and other business units
  • Manage risks and compliance issues within the unit in accordance with ECIC compliance and risk management strategy
  • Manage the Short-term Business Unit portfolio
  • Manage service provider contracts and risk register
  • Keep abreast of short-term trade insurance matters and relevant regulations

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree with specialisation in Accounting, Financial Accounting, Finance, Credit Risk Management, Business Administration, or relevant fields
  • Minimum 8 years’ relevant experience in short-term trade insurance and/or reinsurance, commercial and/or political risk underwriting, or risk management
  • Sound knowledge of international business, contractual, corporate finance practices, and accounting
  • Strong credit and risk analysis skills
  • Ability to comprehensively analyze financial statements
  • Familiarity with and ability to negotiate complex commercial transactions
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels including Board, Executives, Staff, and other key stakeholders
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple functions
  • Ability to communicate underwriting concepts to non-specialists
  • Ability to forge relationships with other areas of the business
  • Strong aptitude for problem resolution and decision making
  • Problem solving skills to identify issues and present creative and practical solutions
