No BS summary

Senior technical content writer with 5–8 years of experience and a strong portfolio in data engineering, cloud infrastructure, or FinOps. Must write deeply for Databricks and Snowflake practitioners and understand cluster configuration, job compute, and cost levers. Remote, with ability to accommodate United States working hours.

Core skills

DatabricksSnowflake

Optional skills

BigQuery

What you'll do

  • Research, outline, draft, and revise comprehensive guides on Databricks and Snowflake cost management topics such as compute optimization, job cluster configuration, Unity Catalog economics, photon efficiency, and similar
  • Structure complex technical material for practitioners who have no patience for surface-level coverage
  • Own the full revision cycle: incorporate feedback from internal SMEs and external technical reviewers
  • Produce technical blog posts on Databricks and Snowflake cost and query optimization topics at a pace of 2 or more per month
  • Write from observed patterns and specific data rather than marketing assertions
  • Adapt posts from longer-form assets or develop standalone pieces tied to product releases, platform updates, or practitioner pain points
  • Develop research outlines, speaker scripts, and slide frameworks for live and on-demand webinars
  • Collaborate with technical presenters, including internal engineers and external practitioners, to shape structure without overwriting their voice
  • Ensure accuracy and depth for webinar content aimed at the same practitioners the written content targets
  • Extend coverage to Snowflake and BigQuery as the content program grows
  • Map transferable concepts across platforms without over-generalizing or flattening the technical distinctions that practitioners care about

What they require

  • Portfolio submissions welcome. Technical writing samples in the data engineering, cloud infrastructure, or FinOps space carry the most weight.
  • This remote role is ideally based in the United States or Canada, with overlap with US business hours (ET–PT) to support collaboration with internal stakeholders and occasional external experts.
  • Candidates outside these time zones are welcome, as long as they can accommodate United States working hours.
  • This role requires technical depth, not just technical curiosity.
  • It also requires independent output.
  • The first draft starts with you.
  • 5 to 8 years of technical content experience, with a portfolio that demonstrates depth in data engineering, cloud infrastructure, or adjacent fields
  • Demonstrated ability to write for Databricks and Snowflake practitioners: data engineers, analytics engineers, platform engineers, or FinOps specialists
  • Hands-on familiarity with Databricks and Snowflake: you understand the platform well enough to write about cluster configuration, job compute, and cost levers without relying solely on documentation
  • Ebook and long-form guide experience: not just word count, but structure, pacing, and making dense material readable without dumbing it down
  • Comfort operating at senior level: you drive workstreams, set your own research agenda, and flag accuracy issues proactively
  • Strong editorial judgment: you know when a draft needs another pass and when it's ready
  • Preferred: Direct experience writing about BigQuery, or other cloud data warehouse and lakehouse platforms
  • Preferred: Familiarity with FinOps concepts applied to data infrastructure, including cloud cost allocation, showback/chargeback, spend optimization
  • Preferred: Experience writing webinar scripts or technical presentation materials, not just post-event recaps
  • Preferred: Background as a practitioner who moved into technical writing, rather than a generalist writer who learned the terminology
