What you'll do

  • Strengthen the frontend foundations every Mercury engineer builds on.
  • Evolve React, TypeScript, and Vite infrastructure to support teams in shipping product work with speed and confidence.
  • Help engineers move efficiently with automation.
  • Use static analysis, local tools, and LLM coding tools to help engineers quickly resolve frontend development friction.
  • Optimize the testing platform for fast feedback loops and high confidence.
  • Provide QA tools for product teams, from unit tests to visual snapshots.
  • Make CI/CD pipelines stable, ergonomic, and fast.
  • Keep the deployment pipeline running smoothly for frequent production deploys and pull request commits.
  • Make systems and the organization observable.
  • Drive decisions by unifying technical metrics from tools with sentiment metrics from developer surveys.
  • Build observability where data does not yet exist.
  • Foster enthusiasm about frontend work at Mercury by making the good path the easy path.
  • Represent frontend developer experience work in larger venues.

What they require

  • 6-8+ years of software development experience, with a strong focus on frontend and deep experience with React and TypeScript.
  • Experience leading complex engineering projects, such as projects that cut across multiple teams and functions, have multi-stage rollouts, or require research and consensus-building before action.
  • Confident communicator, adept at communicating across organization boundaries and driving discussions to productive ends.
  • Has maintained internal libraries or platform tooling that other engineers depend on.
  • Prioritizes being helpful and taking initiative to make other developers' lives easier.
  • Thorough understanding of modern frontend developer tooling and workflows, including build systems, CI/CD, web hosting, and testing.
  • Willing to dig into the gnarly side of the web platform when needed, including Vite internals, upstream fixes, or broken deploy pipelines.
  • Balances practicality with ideals, pushing the team toward an ambitious North Star while charting a realistic course.
