What you'll do

  • Design and implement core platform services in Kotlin across diverse infrastructure targets.
  • Ensure API design quality, documentation, and stability are first-order concerns.
  • Solve integration challenges between platform software and virtualization infrastructure.
  • Build software that handles infrastructure constraints, failure modes, and behavioral quirks gracefully.
  • Collaborate with Staff and Principal Engineers on architectural decisions.
  • Bring hands-on implementation experience and practical tradeoff analysis to design discussions.
  • Own features and components end-to-end from design through implementation, testing, and production operation.
  • Write well-tested, production-quality code with meaningful instrumentation.
  • Implement structured logging, metrics, and alerting to understand service health, measure reliability, and react to production failures.
  • Support engineering teams that depend on Core Services APIs and abstractions.
  • Respond to integration questions and help debug issues at service boundaries.
  • Improve the developer experience of Core Services consumers.
  • Identify and drive resolution of performance bottlenecks, reliability issues, and technical debt within the Core Services stack.
  • Build services and APIs for cyber range lifecycle management, including provisioning, configuration, teardown, and related workflows.
  • Build virtualization and infrastructure integration layers connecting the platform to underlying compute environments.
  • Build in-range asset management for versioning, templates, and configuration of virtual machines that make up a range.
  • Build control plane coordination between the platform and the range environment at runtime.

What they require

  • Strong bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish across written, virtual, and in-person interactions.
  • Experienced software engineer with 5+ years of experience and a track record of building backend services and platform-level software, not application-layer or frontend work.
  • Proficient in Kotlin or a closely related JVM language such as Java or Scala.
  • Strong understanding of JVM fundamentals, concurrency patterns, and modern language features.
  • Kotlin is the team's primary language and you should be productive in it quickly.
  • Comfortable working at the systems level.
  • Understand how software interacts with infrastructure, networking, and virtualization layers.
  • Able to reason about problems that span software, infrastructure, networking, and virtualization boundaries.
  • Preferred: Experience with VMware or hypervisor technologies is a strong plus.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with cloud infrastructure or private cloud platforms is valuable.
  • Experience building software that integrates with infrastructure APIs and understanding the challenges that come with it.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems fundamentals, including service communication patterns, consistency tradeoffs, and failure handling in environments where external dependencies do not always behave predictably.
  • Strong API design sensibility, including contracts, versioning, backwards compatibility, and developer experience for consuming teams.
  • Treat your API as a product.
  • Preferred: Experience with both synchronous REST and asynchronous message bus communication patterns is valuable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously on complex problems.
  • Able to break ambiguous requirements into clear implementation plans without needing every detail specified upfront.
  • Effective communicator who can articulate technical tradeoffs clearly.
  • Able to participate constructively in design reviews.
  • Able to build trust across teams through reliability and follow-through.
