What you'll do

  • Own an integration end to end, including design, code, and the production system that keeps running after launch.
  • Set technical defaults for a growing team to inherit.
  • Own the architecture, including auth and identity flows, multi-tenancy, data movement and residency, performance, and production behavior.
  • Run what you build and be on-call for your own work from early on.
  • Own the infrastructure, CI, deployment, and observability behind your work before there is a dedicated platform to lean on.
  • Work on top of external platforms you cannot change and clearly distinguish which risks are yours to manage.
  • Partner closely with internal teams whose services you depend on.
  • Ask clearly, agree on interfaces, and find ways to keep moving instead of waiting to be unblocked.
  • Form and document opinions about where the team and product should go.
  • Write documents that shape the team's direction.

What they require

  • 5+ years building software, with a good chunk of it on data-heavy or integration-flavored systems.
  • Solid backend and systems instincts.
  • Ability to reason about deployment topology, multi-tenancy, and data movement.
  • Comfort owning architectural tradeoffs you will have to live with later.
  • Experience with modern auth protocols, service principals, and identity federation across a trust boundary.
  • Experience building on someone else's platform, including dealing with incomplete documentation and unintended breaking changes.
  • Comfortable in ambiguity.
  • Ability to ship before the spec is finished.
  • Ability to make sensible calls under uncertainty.
  • Ability to flag decisions that will be hard to undo instead of quietly baking them in.
  • Good with other engineers.
  • Ability to earn trust from teams you do not own through how you think, not just what you commit.
  • Mainly a backend engineer, but comfortable enough in JavaScript / TypeScript to jump in when it helps.
  • Uses AI tools well and honestly, such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or whatever helps.
  • Clear about where AI tools were and were not used.
  • Writes well for design docs, PRs, and RFCs.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with a major cloud data or analytics platform ecosystem.
  • Preferred: Real depth in auth and identity federation, or experience shipping through a partner marketplace or certification process.
  • Preferred: Experience designing multi-tenant SaaS platforms, or the isolation and deployment topology behind them.
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of ClickHouse, or another columnar / OLAP engine.
