What you'll do

  • Data Center Heat Rejection and HVAC System Design: Developing and designing Heat Rejection and HVAC systems specifically tailored for data centers, considering factors such as type of cooling requirement as air cooled or direct fluid cooled, associated cooling loads, future flexibility of the system to accommodate variable heat distribution scenarios, phased construction and operation, airflow management, humidity control, system redundancy providing concurrent maintainability, energy efficiency, and compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Cooling System Selection: Selecting appropriate air/water side cooling systems for data centers, including Fan wall units, computer room air handlers (CRAHs), chilled water systems, DX systems and CRAC units, in-row cooling, and containment solutions, based on the specific cooling requirements of the data center and the criticality of the equipment.
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis: Conducting internal CFD simulations to optimize airflow distribution, transient period analysis, identify hotspots, and ensure efficient cooling throughout the data center; prepare and/or direct preparation of models and analyse the results to recommend design modifications and optimize performance.
  • Redundancy and Fault Tolerance: Designing HVAC systems with redundancy and fault-tolerant features to ensure continuous operation of the data center in the event of equipment failure or maintenance activities, including backup cooling systems and automatic switchover mechanisms.
  • Heat Load Calculation and Capacity Planning: Performing heat load calculations for data centers to determine cooling requirements and conducting capacity planning to ensure the HVAC system can accommodate future expansions and upgrades.
  • Develop and design data center heat rejection and HVAC systems considering redundancy, concurrent maintainability, phasing and energy efficiency.
  • Select appropriate air/water-side cooling systems (fan wall, CRAH, CRAC, chilled water, DX, in-row cooling, containment) based on criticality and cooling requirements.
  • Conduct internal and external CFD simulations to optimise airflow distribution, identify hotspots and recommend design modifications.
  • Design HVAC systems with redundancy and fault-tolerant features, including backup cooling and automatic switchover mechanisms.
  • Perform heat load calculations and capacity planning for IT spaces and admin/common facility sections to accommodate growth and phased construction.
  • Developing and designing Heat Rejection and HVAC systems specifically tailored for data centers, considering factors such as type of cooling requirement as air cooled or direct fluid cooled, associated cooling loads, future flexibility of the system to accommodate variable heat distribution scenarios, phased construction and operation, airflow management, humidity control, system redundancy providing concurrent maintainability, energy efficiency, and compliance with industry standards and best practices.

  • Designing HVAC systems with redundancy and fault-tolerant features to ensure continuous operation of the data center including backup cooling systems and automatic switchover mechanisms.
  • Performing heat load calculations for data centers to determine cooling requirements, and conducting capacity planning to ensure HVAC systems can accommodate future expansions and upgrades.
  • Develop and design heat rejection and HVAC systems tailored for data centers, including airflow management, humidity control, redundancy and energy efficiency.
  • Select appropriate cooling systems (fan wall units, CRAHs, CRACs, chilled water systems, DX systems, in-row cooling, containment solutions).

  • Design HVAC redundancy and fault-tolerant features to enable concurrent maintainability and continuous operation.
  • Perform heat load calculations and capacity planning for data centers and admin/common facility sections.

  • Coordination with Electrical and Mechanical Systems: Collaborating with electrical engineers and mechanical engineers to integrate heat rejection and HVAC systems with electrical infrastructure, UPS, emergency power, fire suppression and other critical systems.
  • Developing and designing Heat Rejection and HVAC systems specifically tailored for data centers, considering cooling type, cooling loads, phased construction, airflow management, humidity control, redundancy and energy efficiency.
  • Selecting appropriate air/water side cooling systems for data centers (fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water systems, DX systems, CRAC units, in-row cooling, containment) based on cooling requirements and equipment criticality.
  • Conducting internal and external CFD simulations to optimize airflow distribution, identify hotspots, analyse transient periods, recommend design modifications and coordinate changes with other trades.
  • Designing HVAC systems with redundancy and fault-tolerant features, including backup cooling systems and automatic switchover mechanisms to ensure continuous operation and concurrent maintainability.
  • Performing heat load calculations and capacity planning for data centers and admin/common facility sections, and implementing energy-efficient HVAC design strategies.

What they require

  • Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education.
  • P. E. registration is required.
  • Experience in data center mechanical and electrical equipment installation and operation.
  • Preferred: a master's degree or advanced coursework in HVAC systems or energy management.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of data center TER Standard Topology as per Uptime Institute, TIA 942, ANSI/BICSI 002.
  • Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Able to travel occasionally for client meetings and project milestones.
