What you'll do

  • Diagnose business problems before building AI solutions
  • Map workflows, identify constraints, and validate whether AI is the right intervention
  • Own AI initiatives end-to-end from stakeholder discovery and technical design through implementation, deployment, and iteration
  • Design, develop, and ship AI-powered solutions and prototypes quickly
  • Build solutions that reduce bottlenecks, shorten lead times, and increase throughput
  • Integrate AI capabilities into existing systems and workflows using APIs, orchestration tools, and modern AI platforms
  • Leverage and showcase GitLab AI offerings and feed usage insights back to R&D
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to align on outcomes
  • Define and track success through business metrics, flow metrics, and feedback loops
  • Evaluate tools, document patterns, and create reusable technical foundations

What they require

  • Strong coding skills and ability to build production-quality solutions independently
  • Strong proficiency in at least one modern scripting language such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar
  • Solid understanding of REST APIs, GraphQL, and integration patterns
  • Deep practical experience with modern AI technologies
  • Ability to design effective system prompts, manage context windows, structure multi-turn interactions, evaluate output quality, and iterate on prompt design
  • Understanding of model selection and cost-performance trade-offs
  • Understanding of when to use smaller fine-tuned models, general-purpose large models, RAG, or expanded context windows
  • Experience with agentic architecture patterns including tool use, multi-agent orchestration, human-in-the-loop designs, guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and production-grade reliability patterns
  • Hands-on experience with models from Anthropic, OpenAI, and open-source alternatives
  • AI safety and risk awareness, including guardrails, input validation, output filtering, access controls, prompt injection defenses, and data leakage prevention
  • Systems thinking and ability to map workflows, identify bottlenecks, and trace root causes
  • Familiarity with enterprise business systems including Salesforce, Marketo, Zendesk, Workato, Relevance AI, and Glean
  • Strong understanding of enterprise data models and workflows
  • Ability to communicate with stakeholders across diverse domains
  • Track record of owning complex initiatives from discovery through delivery
  • Ability to scope MVPs, prioritize, deliver iteratively, and consider adoption, user experience, and business outcomes
