What you'll do

  • Build and evolve Supabase JS/TS SDKs.
  • Identify missing SDK work, make the case for it, and build new functionality.
  • Work in public repositories.
  • Triage inbound issues.
  • Review and shepherd outside contributions.
  • Keep CI and release automation healthy.
  • Maintain clear scope boundaries for public contributions and requests.
  • Own the type experience for generated database types through client APIs.
  • Ensure autocomplete and inference stay correct in real codebases.
  • Validate SDK behavior across Node, Deno, Bun, browsers, Cloudflare Workers, and React Native/Expo.
  • Handle dual ESM/CJS publishing and type resolution across module resolution modes.
  • Work on realtime features including long-lived WebSocket connections, reconnection, subscription semantics, and presence semantics.
  • Track changes in auth, realtime, storage, postgrest, and edge-runtime and reflect them in the SDKs.
  • Document platform changes in the changelog.
  • Write RFCs, migration guides, release notes, and docs.
  • Design breaking changes as deprecation paths with migration stories.
  • Make Supabase SDKs legible to AI coding agents.

What they require

  • Expert-level TypeScript, including generics, conditional types, and mapped types as design tools.
  • Ability to explain why TypeScript inference breaks.
  • Experience authoring or maintaining a published library with a public API and consumers outside your own company.
  • Understanding of the cost of changing APIs people depend on.
  • Experience working on open-source projects from the maintainer side.
  • Experience with issue triage at volume.
  • Experience reviewing outside PRs.
  • Experience with release automation, changelogs, semver, and security reports.
  • Ability to decline feature requests constructively.
  • npm packaging fluency, including dual ESM/CJS builds, export maps, type resolution, semver discipline, and consumer failure modes.
  • Habitual testing with unit, type-level, and end-to-end tests against a real stack.
  • Every fix should come with a regression test.
  • Strong written communication for design docs, changelogs, and issue replies.
  • Comfort working async by default.
  • Real autonomy to find important work, scope it, ship it, and communicate what was not done.
  • Clear communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in async or globally distributed teams.
  • Motivation to solve real-world problems for developers.
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and moving quickly.
