What you'll do
- Code inpatient, outpatient, ED, and home health records using ICD-9/10 CM and CPT-4
- Assign appropriate codes including CPT, ICD, and MS-DRG for financial reimbursement
- Access systems to research medical records and complete coding timely
- Take responsibility for accounts receivable by looking for lost documents
- Generate appropriate queries as needed
- Maintain and disseminate up-to-date technical knowledge of legal and regulatory information
- Resolve pre-bill edits and denials for assigned accounts
- Participate in departmental in-services and updates
What they require
- High school diploma/GED required
- Must have CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, or RHIT/RHIA certification at time of hire or within one year
- 3-5 years experience as a coder required
