What you'll do

  • Provide care to adolescent and adult patients, or across the lifespan, as assigned
  • Assess patients’ mental and physical status based on presenting symptoms and complaints
  • Diagnose psychiatric disorders and mental health conditions
  • Distinguish between physiologically- and psychologically-based disorders
  • Conduct individual psychotherapy for those with chronic or acute mental disorders
  • Order diagnostic tests such as EKGs, lab work, and other testing
  • Prescribe psychotropic medications, including controlled substances, and provide patient education on associated benefits and side effects
  • Monitor patients’ medication usage, side effects, and results
  • Evaluate patients’ behavior and response to treatment
  • Work with difficult patients, deescalating verbally when necessary
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team for treatment planning
  • Educate patients and families about conditions, plans, and medications
  • Document medical and psychological history, assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes
  • Complete administrative documentation like FMLA and other approved forms
  • Arrange follow-up appointments and ongoing care
  • Complete patient visits and documentation in the EHR
  • Practice within HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, national standards, and internal policies
  • Consult Clinical Director or Medical Director for guidance

What they require

  • 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Holds current PMHNP board certification
  • Experience in addiction and mental health
  • Open to obtaining additional state licences
  • Experience with motivational interviewing
  • Partnership-oriented with client goals
  • Must have experience with adults in need of general mental health or severe mental illness (SMI)
  • Must have experience across the lifespan (ages 13+)
  • Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and/or substance abuse dual-diagnosis
  • Treatment planning
  • Conduct and utilize comprehensive assessments
  • Timely and quality documentation with EHRs
  • Adaptability to technology including telehealth software
  • HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 compliance awareness
  • Eligibility to work in the US (no visa sponsorship)
  • For FL or NY licenses: active DEA registration required
  • Preferred: Spanish speaking, other languages a plus; previous telehealth; community mental health sector
