What they require
- JD (or equivalent) and active bar membership in at least one jurisdiction.
- 6+ years of legal experience, including meaningful in-house experience at a crypto, DeFi, fintech, or regulated financial services company.
- Deep, working understanding of DeFi: how DEXs and AMMs operate, what smart order routing involves, how non-custodial wallets and MPC key management work, and how smart contracts are used in protocol integrations.
- Solid grounding in the US regulatory frameworks most relevant to DeFi products: FinCEN money transmission and MSB analysis, SEC securities regulation, CFTC commodity derivatives regulation, and NYDFS requirements for licensed entities.
- Experience providing product lifecycle legal advice directly to engineering and product teams
- Excellent communications skills — the ability to deliver crisp, practical legal advice and synthesise complex regulatory constructs succinctly, especially where the law is unsettled or its application to novel technology is unclear.
- High comfort with legal ambiguity, risk-adjusted thinking, and fast-paced environments where the right answer is not always obvious.
