Principal BI Engineer

Job Description: Read this part first: This is an architect-and-build role, not a keep-the-dashboards-running one. Prodege is moving fast and changing fast, and we need a principal BI engineer who finds that energizing rather than exhausting. If you want a mature analytics stack with settled metrics and a quiet reporting queue, this isn't your role, and that's okay. But if you're the kind of engineer who walks into metric drift, ad hoc reporting chaos, and a half-formed semantic layer and starts building the trusted foundation underneath it, who'd rather define BI strategy in a greenfield environment than maintain someone else's, keep reading. Why this role matters here: You'll build the single source of truth Prodege's leaders rely on for high-stakes product and commercial decisions. You'll architect durable BI and analytics foundations across Snowflake, dbt, Sigma, and semantic/metrics layers, with standardized KPI frameworks that improve performance, reliability, and consistency while cutting rework, metric drift, and one-off reporting demand. The goal: fast, self-serve analytics with strong governance, so the organization moves quicker without sacrificing trust. You'll partner across Product, Data Engineering, Data Science, Finance, Analytics, and business teams to turn evolving needs into standardized models, semantic layers, reporting frameworks, and KPI definitions that drive aligned execution across Performance Marketing, Insights Yield, Consumer Experience, and executive reporting. As a principal-level technical influencer, you'll raise the bar on analytics engineering standards, testing, documentation, semantic modeling, code quality, report design, and tooling, and mentor others to scale those practices. You'll also help move BI toward a more AI-first, self-service, insight-driven operating model. What you'll do: Architect and scale the BI and analytics platform Design, build, and maintain scalable BI and analytics architectures that support both standardized reporting and self-service analytics Define and guide the semantic/metrics layer strategy: reusable metrics, governed KPI definitions, and trusted reporting foundations Architect BI capabilities for executive and board reporting, experimentation, Product analytics, Growth, Yield, and business operations Guide teams on the right BI tools, semantic layer patterns, reporting structures, and data access models Continuously improve the performance, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency of the BI environment Design high-quality analytics data models Develop and manage dbt models on Snowflake with performance, accuracy, maintainability, and business usability in mind Write, optimize, and tune complex SQL for large-scale datasets Design scalable models supporting product, commercial, experimentation, and executive reporting Ensure standardized business logic and durable modeling patterns across reporting domains Enable trusted, self-serve analytics Build and maintain dashboards, semantic layers, and reporting assets in Sigma (or similar BI tools) Enable self-serve analytics while enforcing metric consistency, report usability, and governance Reduce dependency on engineering for routine reporting through reusable, well-governed data and metrics foundations Improve how the organization accesses, interprets, and uses data for decisions Partner across teams to build durable solutions Work with Product, Data Engineering, Data Science, Finance, Analytics, and business teams to define metrics, KPIs, reporting requirements, and semantic structures Translate business questions into scalable BI and analytics designs Support experimentation, product analytics, Growth, Yield, and executive decision-making through strong reporting foundations Raise the bar on analytics engineering standards Implement best practices: testing, version control, documentation, code reviews, and semantic model governance Set high standards for metric trust, report quality, maintainability, and consistency Mentor BI and analytics engineers and influence engineering standards across the org Drive clarity and governance around KPI ownership and business logic changes Leverage AI-based development and analytics tooling Use AI-powered tools to improve development velocity, validation, query generation, documentation, insight summarization, and metric discovery Drive an AI-first mindset in BI, identifying where AI meaningfully improves workflows while keeping strong human validation and business judgment Help teams use AI effectively on complex reporting, semantic modeling, and analytics problems Why this role is worth your time: You build the source of truth , the metrics and models the whole company (up to the board) makes decisions on Principal-level scope to set BI architecture, standards, and strategy across the org, not just ship dashboards Greenfield to shape : metric governance and semantic modeling here are still being defined, and you get to define them You'll push BI toward AI-first , bringing AI into analytics workflows where it genuinely helps Backed for growth : Prodege closed a major Blackstone investment in Q1 2026, which means real momentum and real investment in the platform you'd be building A bit about Prodege: Prodege is a marketing and consumer insights platform that helps leading brands, marketers, and agencies answer their business questions, acquire customers, grow revenue, and build brand loyalty. The must-haves: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Analytics, a quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience 8+ years in BI, Analytics Engineering, Data Modeling, or Data Engineering Strong hands-on expertise with Snowflake, dbt, Sigma (or comparable BI tools with strong semantic/metrics modeling), and advanced SQL optimization Proven experience designing and scaling modern BI platforms and reporting ecosystems, not just ad hoc dashboards or isolated reporting Strong understanding of semantic/metrics layers, KPI standardization and governance, analytics architecture and data modeling, performance tuning and cost in BI environments, and self-service BI design and trusted reporting foundations Experience building production-grade analytics solutions that support business-critical decision-making Proven ability to collaborate with Product, Data Science, Data Engineering, Finance, Analytics, and business stakeholders Experience setting standards for reporting consistency, data quality, and semantic governance Strong mentoring and technical leadership experience, with the ability to influence architecture and BI practices across teams Experience using AI-based tooling to enhance analytics engineering, reporting workflows, developer productivity, or documentation quality Comfort working through ambiguity and helping define BI strategy in a greenfield or evolving environment The nice-to-haves: Experience in AdTech, Performance Marketing, MarTech, marketplaces, or consumer internet platforms Familiarity with streaming or near-real-time analytics architectures Experience enabling analytics governance and metric standardization at scale Experience supporting experimentation platforms, product analytics, or Growth/Yield use cases Experience automating executive or board reporting Familiarity with AI-first or AI-assisted analytics and reporting workflows across BI teams Pay Transparency: The anticipated base salary range for this position is $240,000 to $275,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include, but are not limited to: the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, the type and length of knowledge and skills for the position, education, training, etc. Prodege is a multi-state employer, and final compensation within this range could be impacted by work location.
