What you'll do

  • Develop and design Heat Rejection and HVAC systems specifically tailored for data centers, considering cooling type, cooling loads, phased construction, airflow management, humidity control, redundancy and energy efficiency.
  • Select appropriate air/water side cooling systems for data centers (Fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water systems, DX systems, CRAC units, in-row cooling, containment solutions) based on cooling requirements and criticality.
  • Conduct internal and external Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to optimize airflow distribution, identify hotspots, and recommend design modifications.
  • Design HVAC systems with redundancy and fault-tolerant features, including backup cooling systems, automatic switchover mechanisms, and monitoring systems.
  • Perform heat load calculations and capacity planning for data centers and ancillary admin/common facility areas to support future expansions and phased operations.
  • Develop and design heat rejection and HVAC systems tailored for data centers, including redundancy and concurrent maintainability.
  • Select appropriate air/water-side cooling systems (Fan wall, CRAH, CRAC, chilled water, DX, in-row cooling and containment solutions).
  • Conduct CFD analyses (internal and external) to optimize airflow, identify hotspots and recommend design modifications.
  • Perform heat load calculations and capacity planning for data centers and admin/common facility areas.
  • Coordinate HVAC and heat-rejection systems with electrical infrastructure and other trades to integrate mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Data Center Heat Rejection and HVAC System Design: Developing and designing Heat Rejection and HVAC systems specifically tailored for data centers, considering factors such as type of cooling requirement as air cooled or direct fluid cooled, associated cooling loads, future flexibility of the system to accommodate variable heat distribution scenarios, phased construction and operation, airflow management, humidity control, system redundancy providing concurrent maintainability, energy efficiency, and compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Cooling System Selection: Selecting appropriate air/water side cooling systems for data centers, including Fan wall units, computer room air handlers (CRAHs), chilled water systems, DX systems and CRAC units, in-row cooling, and containment solutions, based on the specific cooling requirements of the data center and the criticality of the equipment.
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis: Conducting internal CFD simulations to optimize airflow distribution, transient period analysis, identify hotspots, and ensure efficient cooling throughout the data center.
  • Redundancy and Fault Tolerance: Designing HVAC systems with redundancy and fault-tolerant features to ensure continuous operation of the data center in the event of equipment failure or maintenance activities.
  • Heat Load Calculation and Capacity Planning: Performing heat load calculations for data centers to determine the cooling requirements based on the IT equipment, power density, anticipated growth, and phasing of the construction and operational steps.
  • Data Center Heat Rejection and HVAC System Design: Developing and designing Heat Rejection and HVAC systems specifically tailored for data centers
  • Cooling System Selection: Selecting appropriate air/water side cooling systems including Fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water systems, DX systems, CRAC units, in-row cooling, and containment solutions
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis: Conducting internal and external CFD simulations to optimize airflow distribution and identify hotspots
  • Redundancy and Fault Tolerance: Designing HVAC systems with redundancy and fault-tolerant features to ensure continuous operation

  • Cooling System Selection: Selecting appropriate air/water side cooling systems for data centers, including Fan wall units, computer room air handlers (CRAHs), chilled water systems, DX systems and CRAC units, in-row cooling, and containment solutions.

What they require

  • Bachelor's Degree with 6+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience in data center mechanical and electrical equipment installation and operation.
  • P. E. registration is required.
  • Must be able to attend in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for client meetings, project milestones or onsite collaboration.
  • Relocation is not available; sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Bachelor's Degree with 6+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education.
  • P. E. registration is required
  • Ability to travel occasionally for client meetings, project milestones, or onsite collaboration sessions.
  • Knowledge of data center TER Standard Topology as per Uptime Institute, TIA 942, ANSI/BICSI 002.
  • Preferred: master's degree or advanced coursework in HVAC/energy management; certifications such as CEM, BEMP, or LEED.
