Manager for a distributed Solutions Architecture / pre-sales team covering the UK and Ireland. Needs experience managing technical teams in software or technology sales, pre-sales, consulting, or related environments, plus direct UK/I exposure. Must be based in the UK or Ireland and willing to travel.

What you'll do

  • Manage a team of intermediate and senior Solutions Architects across the UK and Ireland
  • Partner directly on strategic opportunities, executive relationships, and complex sales cycles to secure technical wins
  • Guide regional strategy for technical evaluations, workshops, demonstrations, and proof-of-concept engagements
  • Work cross-functionally with Solutions Architecture, Sales, Channel, Marketing, Sales Enablement, and Product Management
  • Manage dotted-line relationships with Channel Solutions Architects and subject matter experts
  • Maintain operational discipline across workload planning, resource allocation, headcount planning, opportunity forecasting, and field execution
  • Define and track team KPIs and communicate progress, risks, and priorities
  • Hire, develop, and retain high-performing Solutions Architects
  • Run technical evaluations, executive workshops, demos, and proof-of-concept engagements
  • Build regional operating practices for Solutions Architects across UK/I

What they require

  • Experience managing technical teams in software or technology sales, pre-sales, consulting, or a related environment, with direct exposure to the UK and Ireland
  • Exposure to other European markets such as Sweden or the Netherlands is a plus
  • Strong background in solution architecture or comparable practical experience
  • Ability to relate technical depth to customer business value
  • Proven success developing, mentoring, and scaling Solutions Architecture practices or similar customer-facing technical organizations
  • Strong communication and technical presentation skills
  • Ability to engage effectively across cultures and with technical and business stakeholders
  • Demonstrated business acumen and sound judgment
  • Track record of influencing cross-functional stakeholders and building partnerships across Sales, Channel, Marketing, Enablement, Product, and senior stakeholder groups
  • Experience building inclusive, high-performing teams and accountable operating practices in a distributed or remote environment
  • Curiosity for AI and habit of using AI tools in day-to-day work
  • Ability and willingness to travel in line with business needs and GitLab's travel policy
  • Applicants must be based in the UK or Ireland
