Linguist - Finnish - Remote

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Lilt is looking for English into Finnish freelance translators to join our Translator Community. We are specifically seeking native Finnish linguists with demonstrable experience in medical devices, audiology, hearing care, and healthcare/digital marketing to support high-priority localization campaigns for leading global hearing-health brands.

Please note that this is a remote, freelance contractor position.

REQUIREMENTS

• Native or fluent in Finnish (reading and writing).
• University Degree in Linguistics / Translation, or a medical/scientific certification.
• Demonstrable experience in translation, localization, and transcreation. Please provide details of projects and clients relevant to audiology (hearing aids, audiometry, EU MDR terminology) and/or medical-adjacent B2C marketing.
• Can dedicate a minimum of 5 hours to translation tasks per week.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you a talented Finnish linguist with a love for language, cutting-edge technology, and specialized medical communication? We want YOU to join our dynamic translation pool!

We're on the lookout for experts who can seamlessly bridge the gap between two worlds: clinical medical-device accuracy (such as HCP brochures, technical one-pagers, and clinical terminology) and bold, creative brand marketing (such as patient-facing B2C web pages, social media, and email campaigns). If you understand the nuances of hearing health and know how to write empowering, accessible copy for Finnish audiences, we want to hear from you.

WHAT YOU’LL DELIVER

• Translate and transcreate content between English and Finnish while preserving cultural nuance, clinical accuracy, and brand voice.
• Edit and refine language content for accuracy, tone, and contextual relevance across digital platforms.
• Apply current language standards, usage trends, and industry-specific terminology (such as EU MDR standards) to all deliverables.
• Evaluate and provide structured feedback to improve language model quality.
• Collaborate with Production and cross-functional teams to localize content specifically for the Finnish-speaking market.
• Support content development, localization, and quality assurance for digital tools and web applications.
• If transcreation is required, the text should be creatively adapted beyond the source to ensure it reads naturally, warmly, and persuasively in Finnish.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Native-level proficiency in Finnish.
• A graduate qualification in translation, linguistics, or language studies, OR
• A graduate qualification in another field (such as life sciences, biomedical engineering, or marketing) plus 2 years of full-time professional translation experience, OR
• 5 years of full-time professional translation experience.
• The ability to follow terminology glossaries, brand voice parameters, and reference materials precisely in our online platform.

WHAT TO CONSIDER BEFORE APPLYING

• Not ideal as a full-time job or primary income source. Work availability fluctuates with project demand, making this better suited as a supplemental income stream. As a 1099 contractor, you won't receive benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, or retirement contributions, and hours are not guaranteed.
• Requires reliable availability and commitment. Once you accept a task, we expect quality work and on-time delivery. Most tasks require a minimum of 2 hours per day or 10 hours per week. If your schedule is unpredictable, this may not be the right fit.
• Geographic restrictions may apply. We cannot engage contractors in regions subject to international embargo or sanctions. As a 1099 contractor, you are solely responsible for your own tax obligations. We recommend consulting a tax professional before engaging.
