What you'll do

  • Formulate, design, and manage independent test and evaluation research programs for AI system harms.
  • Lead and contribute to development of competitive research proposals defining scope, methodology, and deliverables.
  • Serve as principal investigator for NLP and LLM test and evaluation programs, accountable for outcomes, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Apply advanced AI/software engineering and data analysis skills to execute and manage research programs.
  • Analyze experimental results, determine causes, develop solutions, and evaluate technical specifications.
  • Plan, design, and complete validation procedures for testing and evaluation results.
  • Plan, design, and execute research challenges and improve Digital Safety’s evaluation tools.
  • Propose and host workshops at leading AI safety research conferences.
  • Stay current with scientific publications and conferences and contribute to cross-functional initiatives.

What they require

  • PhD in Computer Science (focus on NLP or LLMs) plus 6 or more years of directly related research experience.
  • Master’s in Computer Science (focus on NLP or LLMs) plus 8 or more years of directly related research experience.
  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science (focus on NLP or LLMs) plus 12 or more years of directly related research experience.
  • Demonstrated experience securing research funding through competitive proposal development.
  • Demonstrated track record leading research programs and serving as principal investigator.
  • Ability to publish research results at leading academic conferences.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with research scientists, engineers, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract invitations to give keynote presentations.
