What you'll do

  • Lead architecture, implementation, and delivery for aspects of the Ubuntu Linux kernel
  • Drive engagements with key silicon and cloud partners
  • Lead mitigation of vulnerabilities and kernel hardening for Ubuntu Linux
  • Architect performance and correctness enhancements for the Ubuntu Linux kernel
  • Streamline packaging and distribution of third-party components
  • Develop ways to deliver Ubuntu Linux at scale to strict quality standards and schedules
  • Set technical direction and lead delivery for a team of junior and mid-career engineers
  • Coordinate initiatives with management and external teams
  • Collaborate with senior technical leadership on the Kernel Team

  • Proven track record in operating systems kernel development or low level system engineering
  • Deep technical background in operating system kernels and distributions
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to drive delivery teams to completion
  • Demonstrated technical equivalent of 15+ years of industry experience
  • Able to thrive in a remote work environment
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Expert understanding of the C programming language
  • Demonstrated expertise working in a *nix-based operating system kernel and distribution
  • Direct Linux experience is ideal but not required
  • Python and Bash scripting ability
  • Powerful grasp of git version control
  • Prior experience developing with software packaging formats
  • Ability to travel internationally at least twice a year for company events of up to two weeks
