What you'll do

  • Act as the lead legal advisor for German group entities, providing guidance on commercial, employment, and corporate matters.
  • Lead the German commercial contracting lifecycle for B2B, B2C, and B2G agreements, including drafting and negotiating agreements that help the business scale safely.
  • Navigate the German regulatory landscape, including vocational training regulations (AZAV), providing practical advice to support business growth.
  • Support post-acquisition workstreams, including contract migrations, governance alignment, and compliance harmonisation for European M&A transactions.
  • Advise on German employment matters, including works council engagement and equity schemes.
  • Manage relationships with external German counsel to ensure high-quality, cost-effective support.
  • Draft and negotiate UK commercial contracts covering tech, data, and partnerships.
  • Act as a strategic bridge between UK and German business functions.

What they require

  • Qualified to practice law in Germany.
  • Strong understanding of the German legal market and experience working within the UK legal environment, such as in-house, international firm, or UK-based role.
  • Experience managing a variety of commercial contracts and regulatory matters.
  • Ability to provide clear, actionable advice to business leaders.
  • Comfortable navigating change and prioritizing tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Desire to work effectively across different cultures, time zones, and departments.
  • Interest in how AI and technology are evolving the legal profession; forward-thinking approach to productivity is valued.

  • Successful applicants will be required to undertake at least a Basic check via the Disclosure Barring Service (DBS).
  • For roles involving a Regulated Activity, successful applicants must undergo an Enhanced DBS check, including a Children’s Barred List check and a Prohibition Order check.
  • Preferred: Experience in M&A transactions or post-closing integration.
  • Preferred: Background in German employment law, including works councils or incentive plans.
  • Preferred: Prior experience in an in-house environment, particularly within the tech or edtech sectors.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with UK commercial legal frameworks.
