No BS summary

Entrepreneurially-minded engineer with deep structural engineering expertise (civil/structural/mechanical or closely adjacent disciplines) and hands-on experience in modular structural systems, DfMA or foundation engineering. Must have demonstrable delivery experience (prototypes, field trials or type-test/standards-compliant data) and experience translating engineering into manufacturable, field-deployable systems. UK-based role; full-time, remote initially until venture incorporation and spin-out.

What you'll do

  • Join DSV’s venture creation programme as a Founder-in-Residence and co-found a new company with DSV and the Partner’s team
  • Critically evaluate, refine, challenge and extend existing scoping work for the technical thesis on fragmenting/modularising transmission towers and foundations
  • Assess technical tractability and neglect for approaches enabling off-site manufacture, rapid deployment, and reduced dependence on heavy plant
  • Evaluate commercial neglect including IP strategy, differentiation and competition
  • Define and refine value proposition (market, value capture, techno-economics)
  • Develop regulatory strategy and positioning
  • Develop fundraising strategy and pitching materials
  • Optimise company strategy for a rapid and de-risked path to Series A
  • Prepare for Investment Committee (IC) by fulfilling investment criteria and recruiting advisory and co-founding team members
  • Conduct parallel fundraising for additional expansion funds
  • If successful at IC, accept pre-seed investment and spin out the company; continue as founder post-spinout

What they require

  • You have deep engineering expertise in designing, analysing or deploying complex structural systems (typically from civil, structural or mechanical engineering, but adjacent disciplines are considered).
  • You have genuine hands-on depth in at least one of: modular structural systems (interlocking connections, DfMA, kit-of-parts); advanced connection technologies (friction-grip bolting, adhesive bonding, snap-fit joints, field-weldable nodes); lightweight/composite structural materials (FRP, BFRP, advanced steel alloys); foundation engineering and geotechnics (micropile systems, helical anchors, precast foundations); automated/robotic construction (robotic assembly, drone-assisted installation, self-erecting mechanisms).
  • If your expertise sits outside traditional transmission engineering but you've solved comparable challenges in structural systems, modular construction, deployable infrastructure, heavy lifting, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, offshore or defence, we encourage you to apply and explain transferability.
  • Preferred: Full project lifecycle experience in grid, energy or large infrastructure construction.
  • Preferred: Hands-on regulatory navigation experience (UK/EU/USA).
  • Preferred: A prototype or field trial you personally shipped, or a type-test/standards-compliant data package you delivered.
  • Preferred: Experience designing products or systems for manufacture, field deployment or installation at scale (DfMA, modular construction or equivalent).
  • Preferred: BD/partnerships experience in energy infrastructure/construction, or Founder, C-suite or technical leadership experience building and commercialising deep-tech, construction-tech or industrial products.
  • Above all: systems thinkers who have fundamentally changed how something gets built, assembled or installed (even outside transmission) are encouraged to apply.

Benefits

  • Access to DSV’s venture creation methodology, proprietary tools, resources and processes
  • DSV and the Partner’s extensive network including leaders of energy infrastructure, transmission operators, EPC contractors and domain experts
  • Joint initial £250k investment governed by DSV’s Investment Committee to incorporate the new venture and develop early proof-of-concept data
  • Majority equity stake for founders/co-founders
  • Minimum guaranteed income of £4,166 per month (fixed) paid to each Founder as a consultancy fee until company launch and pre-seed investment
  • Continuous post-spinout support including fundraising, commercial partnerships, recruitment and team-building
  • Collaboration and support from other Founders currently at DSV
