What you'll do

  • Manage complex accounting journals including preparation, review and approval to support GL maintenance including revenue recognition through Salesforce, payroll adjustments and accruals.
  • Lead month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing processes ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Analyze, reconcile and resolve balance sheet issues.
  • Manage follow ups and review of GL related inquiries by staff or central offices.
  • Prepare, review and approve vendor payments and reimbursements.
  • Monitor and resolve discrepancies or issues with vendors and faculty payments.
  • Manage Accounts Receivable process including billing, communications, collections and customer management.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve customer billing disputes.
  • Review and approve departmental p-card transactions.
  • Provide financial operations support to a complex unit portfolio with a global customer base and foster cross-unit relationships.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and system implementation to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepare and assist with development of reporting varying in complexity.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining financial policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Financial Planning and Analysis to align financial operations with organizational objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with OEE/HMS/HU financial operations policies.
  • Provide coverage of tasks for other FinOps team members as needed.

What they require

  • 5 or more years of experience in accounting, finance, or related field (higher education may count).
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of financial systems and accounting procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Office suite applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and ability to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience building effective, efficient systems and documenting business practices/standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • May be tested on appropriate skills.
  • Must be able to work all scheduled hours in a Harvard-registered US state.
