What you'll do

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and diagnostic evaluations for patients presenting in the Emergency Department (ED)
  • Perform psychiatric admission evaluations
  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of mental health disorders in an acute care hospital setting
  • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications ensuring that treatment plans are effective and adjusted as needed
  • Create individualized treatment plans that include medication management, psychotherapy, and other interventions
  • Chart audits, peer review, meetings, provider management, etc.
  • Maintain up to date medical records, ensuring compliance with facility policies, state regulations, and standards of care
  • Maintain and monitor confidentiality of patients and their files; audit files to determine that all services provided are documented; review status of patients to verify that all treatment and therapeutic programs are completed
  • Work closely with psychologists, social workers, nurses, and staff to provide integrated and coordinated care
  • Provide immediate psychiatric care in crisis situations, such as suicide attempts or acute psychiatric episodes, and work to prevent incidents through proactive mental health management
  • Endeavor to comply with the requirements of applicable regulations, laws, rules, procedures, policies, standards and/or contract.

What they require

  • Active North Carolina (NC) medical license
  • 2 years of inpatient experience (trauma experience required)
  • Board Certified or Eligible (within 1 year of residency completion) in Psychiatry
  • Valid and unrestricted DEA
  • Proficient in using Telemedicine technologies to treat patients remotely
