What you'll do

  • Improve local development and the daily workflow.
  • Own local development environment stability, eliminate “works on my machine,” keep environments reproducible across teams, and make onboarding and setup self-service for every engineer.
  • Improve the daily editing experience, including IDE and editor tooling, extensions, code search, indexing, and navigation that stays fast as the codebase grows.
  • Build project scaffolding, templates, and golden-path workflows that make the right thing the easy thing.
  • Speed up build, test, and CI.
  • Improve testing tooling for engineers, including test orchestration, ephemeral end-to-end environments, mutation testing, and chaos testing.
  • Profile build and test performance, optimize CI pipelines, parallelize and shard tests, cache aggressively, and remove bottlenecks that leave engineers waiting.
  • Integrate and optimize code review tooling and automated review.
  • Bring AI into how Supabase builds software.
  • Evaluate, integrate, and promote AI coding agents and assistants where they deliver leverage without sacrificing quality or maintainability.
  • Build and curate the skills, extensions, and plugins that make AI tools effective in Supabase’s codebase.
  • Measure the real impact of AI tooling so investment goes where it pays off.
  • Drive engineering excellence.
  • Champion best practices and act as a force multiplier for the engineering organization.
  • Track productivity metrics and feedback loops such as DORA to find where cycle time is lost and improve it.
  • Track code-quality signals such as coverage and mutation testing, and build dashboards that make quality visible.
  • Establish automation and practices that catch issues early in the development cycle.

What they require

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on developer productivity, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
  • Passionate about developer experience and productivity; notices when engineers are fighting tools rather than solving problems and fixes it.
  • Proficient in Go, TypeScript, Python, Rust, and shell and uses them to build robust internal tools.
  • Experience with CI/CD systems and pipeline optimization, such as GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Octopus, or Harness.
  • Experience with local development environments and reproducibility, such as devcontainers, Nix, or Docker.
  • Experience with containerization and image optimization.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as coding agents and IDE assistants, with a clear view on where they help and where they do not.
  • Experience with test infrastructure and test orchestration, ephemeral end-to-end environments, flaky-test management, and approaches like mutation or chaos testing.
  • Experience with code review and developer workflow tooling, and automation that streamlines it.
  • Experience with monorepo tooling, build systems, and package managers such as pnpm, Nx, Turborepo, or Bazel, including build caching and remote execution.
  • Experience with developer productivity metrics and feedback loops such as DORA, and using data to drive improvements.
  • Has made local development environments stable and reproducible across teams.
  • Communicates clearly across both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in async or globally distributed teams.
  • Energized by solving real-world problems for developers.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and moving quickly.
