Technical engineering manager for a remote UK role leading a fullstack team building and operating large-scale distributed systems. Needs experience owning four-nines services, driving operational excellence, using AI tooling, and leading distributed remote teams.

What you'll do

  • Lead the fullstack Switchboard team responsible for GitLab Dedicated’s customer-facing control panel and set clear direction for how the team delivers and evolves that product.
  • Coordinate strongly with the assigned Product Manager.
  • Hire and develop a high-performing team where team members can thrive and produce results with quality and speed.
  • Partner with Technical Team Leads to provide direction and act as final decision-maker and unblocker for the team.
  • Partner closely with Product and Design on the customer-facing control panel, including wireframes and UI direction for external users.
  • Own planning with the Product Manager, including priorities, dependencies, and the quarterly delivery epic.
  • Ensure fast, high-quality, cross-functional execution across frontend, backend, UX, product, and technical writing.
  • Drive improvements in quality, security, and performance.
  • Support the team’s mission of enabling GitLab Dedicated customers to manage their tenant environments while reducing manual operations on the large-scale Dedicated fleet.

  • Proven track record building and owning large-scale distributed services, with the technical depth to dive into architecture and guide the team on technical strategy.
  • Experience driving operational excellence and owning services running at four-nines (99.99%) SLOs.
  • Experience leveraging AI tooling to boost team productivity, with real lessons learned from both wins and missteps.
  • History of building and managing high-performing, accountable team cultures, including managing out when necessary.
  • Comfort driving complex projects to completion without relying on a dedicated TPM.
  • Experience leading distributed and remote teams effectively.
