What you'll do

  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams building the Incidents product using high-scale backend services, data pipelines, and AI Agentic workflows to detect, validate, and deliver live road updates.
  • Drive the team’s day-to-day work.
  • Foster the growth and development of people on the team.
  • Align the team’s work with company priorities.
  • Drive robust, reliable, and innovative solutions for services handling billions of requests every day.
  • Deliver complex, high-impact projects while providing technical expertise and mentorship to the team.
  • Operate the team’s day-to-day work and be hands-on in project management and sprint planning.
  • Manage operational best practices for on-call and related responsibilities.
  • Empathize with internal and external customers and deliver features that address their needs.
  • Manage and develop the team through hiring, retaining, mentoring, and building the team’s capabilities.
  • Drive company, product, and team objectives while carrying the team and stakeholders along in decision-making.
  • Work with Product and Engineering teams to develop the long-term business strategy driving the team’s work.
  • Establish, track, and iterate on operational metrics to ensure the team delivers products meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
  • Determine best engineering practices and promote them within the team and across Mapbox.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, diversity, and data-driven decisions on the team.

What they require

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent practical hands-on engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of people management experience.
  • Experience managing remote engineering teams leading to product execution and business outcomes while growing and developing engineering talent.
  • Understanding of hiring diverse talent and creating a culture where team members can learn and grow with the organization.
  • Deep knowledge and experience building scalable web services and data pipelines in AWS.
  • Ability to drive a culture of quality and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Passion for monitoring, metrics, triage, resolving customer issues, and iterative improvement.
  • Ability to foster end-to-end development of clearly designed interfaces, documentation, thorough test coverage, and effective code reviews.
  • Ability to own the vision, lead the strategy, and guide the team to execute toward building the future of the product.
  • Strong customer focus and commitment to innovating on customers’ behalf.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including explaining complex ideas concisely to a wide audience.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams of 5+ people.
  • Ability to thoughtfully integrate AI into design, development, and decision-making.
