What you'll do

  • Build and lead the small founding team of engineers and data scientists.
  • Set the team’s culture and hiring bar from the beginning.
  • Own the team’s outcomes end to end: what it delivers, production health, and people growth.
  • Set technical and cultural direction alongside lead engineers.
  • Make calls that unblock rather than bottleneck the team.
  • Own the hiring bar from the first req to the tenth.
  • Create clarity and a plan when the path is undefined.
  • Be accountable for shipped systems behaving as intended in production, not just passing in staging.

What they require

  • Proven, demonstrable AI-native leadership — personally operating at 10x with AI and building, hiring, and coaching a team that does the same.
  • 8-10+ years in engineering, including real time leading teams that shipped and operated production systems people depended on.
  • Genuine technical depth — came up through building and can still go deep on systems, ML, or both, well enough to guide hard calls and review the work.
  • Track record of hiring and growing high-performing engineers and data scientists, and setting a bar a team is proud to clear.
  • Ability to own delivery of an ambiguous, high-stakes charter end to end without trading away quality or the production bar.
  • Hands-on enough that strong engineers respect your judgment.
  • Secure enough to let engineers fully own their work.
  • Relentless hiring standards and willingness to leave a seat open rather than fill it with “good enough.”
  • Ability to grow people and turn strong individual contributors into force multipliers.
  • Ownership of delivery and production outcomes, with responsibility instead of excuses.
  • Comfort creating clarity where there was ambiguity.
  • High quality bar for both product and team.
