What you'll do

  • Build and lead an engineering team in a fast-moving AI-native environment.
  • Develop engineers, create clarity, and deliver meaningful outcomes with strong technical judgment.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers, helping them grow in ownership, performance, and long-term career development.
  • Create a high-trust environment where people can learn in action, make decisions with confidence, and do their best work together.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and team shaping as engineering scales at n8n.
  • Help the team stay focused and effective as priorities evolve, new opportunities emerge, and AI reshapes how products are built.
  • Communicate clearly and credibly through change, giving engineers the context and direction they need to move forward with confidence.
  • Turn complexity into momentum by helping the team focus on what matters most without unnecessary uncertainty or process.
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to align on priorities, trade-offs, and success criteria.
  • Bring the right level of structure to the team, using process where helpful and keeping things lightweight where it is not.
  • Keep the team accountable to meaningful outcomes while balancing speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.
  • Use technical depth to mentor engineers, challenge decisions thoughtfully, and maintain a high bar for engineering quality.
  • Support architectural and delivery decisions across the area, helping the team make trade-offs around scalability, reliability, and speed.
  • Step into technical details or code when needed to unblock or support the team while keeping the primary focus on people leadership and team effectiveness.

What they require

  • At least 2 years of first-line Engineering Manager experience directly leading engineers in a growing product organization.
  • Experience leading teams that shipped meaningful product or platform outcomes.
  • Ability to balance execution, quality, and team health.
  • Experience leading engineering teams working in billing and licensing areas such as subscription, billing, payments, metering, or licensing/entitlement systems, or in governance and observability areas such as audit logging, monitoring/observability tooling, admin/access controls, or compliance-related features.
  • Strong people leadership, including coaching, giving clear feedback, supporting career growth, and handling hard conversations with empathy, honesty, and accountability.
  • Composure in fast-moving environments, helping teams stay focused, confident, and effective as priorities evolve.
  • Strong software engineering background with ability to mentor engineers, contribute to system and architecture discussions, and assess technical trade-offs.
  • Comfortable going deep into technical details or code to unblock, challenge, or support the team without being on the critical path.
  • Experience collaborating with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to align different perspectives into a clear path forward.
  • Experience working in a high-growth SaaS company and building strong teams while scaling with intention.
  • Preferred: Open-source or developer tooling interest, with excitement for technical products, builder communities, extensible software, and automation.
  • Preferred: AI product exposure, including work near AI-native products, AI features, or teams exploring how AI changes product experiences and engineering execution.
  • For countries other than Germany, existing right to work is required.
  • Company language is English.
