No BS summary

Senior economist with an advanced degree in economics (PhD valuable) and 5+ years of applied quantitative modeling of economic outcomes. Hands-on experience across multiple modeling approaches (microsimulation, reduced-form estimation, macro/structural modeling) and a publication/public-analysis record that survived external scrutiny.

What you'll do

  • Own the design and delivery of Windfall's scenario modeling platform: defining economic primitives, mapping aggregate shocks onto occupations, and propagating them to produce distributional and fiscal outputs.
  • Design a macroeconomic modeling approach to describe a wide range of economic scenarios for preparedness work.
  • Lead methodology for country-level work, including index construction: indicator selection, standardization, weighting, and uncertainty quantification.
  • Evaluate and select methods, models, and data sources across countries, judging when to use microsimulation, reduced-form estimation, structural modeling, or simpler approaches.
  • Simulate and cost policy responses under each scenario and co-author Windfall's flagship publications, ensuring reproducibility and quality control.

What they require

  • An advanced degree in economics or a closely related quantitative field (PhD valuable) plus 5+ years of applied quantitative modeling of economic outcomes.
  • Hands-on experience across multiple modeling approaches (e.g., tax-benefit or dynamic microsimulation, reduced-form estimation, macro or structural modeling, composite index construction, fiscal costing).
  • A publication or public-analysis record where methodology survived external scrutiny (peer review, official scoring, government clearance, or equivalent).
  • Experience with distributional analysis of labor market shocks, technology adoption, or structural economic transitions.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving, remote, international team and presenting technical work to non-technical policy audiences.
