The Director, Specialized Accounting plays a critical role in supporting NFF’s financial integrity, compliance, and operational effectiveness. This role leads key accounting work streams with a primary focus on grant accounting and compliance, New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) accounting support, and special projects as they arise.

What you'll do

  • Manage financial review, accounting, and reporting for assigned grants, including federal grants subject to Single Audit requirements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate revenue recognition for grants and contributions in accordance with GAAP, FASB guidance, and OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
  • Maintain NMTC fund-related accounting records in accordance with GAAP and fund accounting standards.
  • Reconcile NMTC fund bank accounts and related general ledger balances.
  • Contribute to monthly and quarterly close activities, including restricted fund reconciliations and reporting.

What they require

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field or equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and relevant experience
  • Seven (7) years of progressive professional experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
  • Demonstrated experience with nonprofit Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), restricted fund accounting, cost allocation, and audit support
  • Working knowledge of federal grant compliance and reporting requirements
  • Strong proficiency with accounting systems, financial reporting tools, and Microsoft Excel
