  • Be accountable for the quality and outcomes of everything the team ships.
  • Connect design vision to company strategy and business goals.
  • Articulate where the Registry experience should be in 12–18 months.
  • Set strategy with Product Management and Engineering peers by defining the sequence of bets to reach the vision and earning organizational alignment.
  • Set the bar for quality, delight, and product excellence.
  • Demonstrate and teach the organization what great product experience looks and feels like.
  • Trade perfection for learning that moves the product toward a high quality bar.
  • Plan and execute research to ground design decisions in how families behave.
  • Lead from craft knowledge and hands-on understanding of shipping products.
  • Operate with agency and create the conditions for personal and team success.
  • Bias toward action before having the full picture and bring others along while learning.
  • Hold yourself and others accountable and avoid attributing setbacks to external conditions.
  • Serve as a model for AI-first Design at Babylist.
  • Use AI-native workflows in your own work.
  • Ship things yourself when appropriate.
  • Help define the rituals and practices the rest of the design function will adopt.
  • Build AI-enabled workflows that bring others into design tools and let non-designers contribute meaningfully to the experience layer.
  • Act as a consultant and quality bar for democratized design work, not a gatekeeper.
  • Hire, develop, retain, and organize designers who execute with speed and quality.
  • Create a growth-mindset environment where designers do their best work.
  • Manage performance directly.
  • Invest in the career growth of everyone on the team.
  • Partner with engineering, product management, analytics, marketing, and merchandising leaders as co-builders to move high-impact work forward.
  • Bring tighter problem framing, sharper user insight, and prototypes that make decisions easier.
  • Work with the VP of Product Design, peers, and Tech leaders to evolve the operating model, hiring bar, and craft standards as the team transitions.

What they require

  • Strategic visionary who combines user needs, business priorities, and product and design sense into an inspirational vision.
  • Strong craft and experience focus with attention to transitions, motion, and accessibility.
  • Portfolio of shipped consumer product work across web and native mobile.
  • Systems thinker who understands how interactions fit into a broader experience and how Registry flows connect across the Babylist ecosystem.
  • Understanding of how the design system enables the broader experience.
  • AI-native practitioner-leader who uses AI tools to prototype, explore, and iterate quickly.
  • Stays close to the craft, reviews work in depth, and can build when building is the fastest path to impact.
  • Hands-on understanding of what it takes to ship.
  • Able to leverage, plan, and run generative and evaluative research to produce actionable insights for product decisions.
  • Uses qualitative and quantitative evidence in design decisions.
  • Communicates clear, persuasive design rationale concisely and effectively.
  • Current with modern product design patterns and best practices.
  • Knowledge of interaction patterns, design system conventions, and digital product best practices.
  • Clear and critical thinker who synthesizes competing inputs and stress-tests assumptions.
  • Communicates point of view with extreme clarity.
  • Encourages productive conflict and surfaces misalignment early.
  • Owns outcomes and impact rather than only shipping.
  • Instruments own work, tracks whether it moves the right metrics, and holds self and organization accountable for results.
  • People leader who can hire, develop, retain, and inspire a team of designers.
  • Gives direct, honest feedback and manages performance with care and clarity.
  • Builds and maintains systems, rituals, and processes that help the team execute with quality and consistency.
