Senior finance leader with deep nonprofit accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and audit experience. Must thrive in a hands‑on, remote, entrepreneurial nonprofit environment and be comfortable wearing multiple hats.

What you'll do

  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
  • Build cash flow analyses, scenarios, and cost models
  • Prepare and present accurate financial statements and budget-to-actual reports to leadership and Board
  • Oversee externally managed investment portfolio in accordance with Board-approved policy
  • Oversee accounting and administration of SAFE agreements and direct investments
  • Oversee monthly close, balance sheet reconciliation, and payroll approval
  • Approve journal entries and restricted revenue accounting
  • Lead annual audit, Form 990 preparation, and compliance with contracts, 1099s, and investment activity
  • Establish and monitor internal controls and finance policies
  • Manage grant tracking, restricted-funding compliance, and donor reporting
  • Lead fiscal sponsorship program including due diligence, agreements, and compliance
  • Supervise finance team, set goals, and coach staff
  • Manage external vendors and consultants for cost-effectiveness

What they require

  • Significant experience leading nonprofit finance
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, financial reporting, audits, Form 990, internal controls, regulatory compliance
  • Experience supporting executive leadership, Boards, and Board committees
  • Experience supervising staff and managing external vendors, consultants, and professional services
  • Strong project management and multi-priority handling skills
  • Ability to communicate financial information to non-finance audiences
  • Working knowledge of payroll and benefits-related finance, HR and people-operations compliance
  • Comfort in a small, entrepreneurial nonprofit environment, wearing multiple hats and close engagement with execution
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Demonstrated proficiency with financial, payroll, benefits, and business operations systems
  • Preferred CPA or MBA
  • Preferred experience overseeing nonprofit investment portfolios with external investment advisors
  • Preferred experience managing SAFE agreements or direct venture investments
  • Preferred experience administering fiscal sponsorship programs
  • Preferred experience with leadership transitions, organizational change, or scaling infrastructure
  • Preferred experience with remote or distributed teams
  • Preferred experience in racial equity, education, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, or social impact organizations
