Tasks
Role Description
As a DevOps Engineering Intern at atvari, you will support the design, implementation, and maintenance of Nix-based development and deployment environments. You will assist in writing and refining Nix and NixOS configurations, automating build and deployment workflows, and integrating Nix with existing software projects. Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with engineers on backend services, troubleshooting environment and dependency issues, and documenting configuration and tooling. This is a fully remote internship, where you will work closely with the engineering team and gain hands-on experience with Rust, Nix, and cloud-native practices.
Internship Details
This is an unpaid internship for the duration of 1-3 months based on your needs. It is either offered as a voluntary internship (Freiwilliges Praktikum) or a mandatory internship (Pflichtpraktikum) and it is only available to German residents.
You are eligible if one of these conditions apply to you:
you do not have a completed apprenticeship or university degree (Freiwilliges Praktikum) you need a mandatory internship as part of a degree program (Pflichtpraktikum)
Requirements
Strong foundational knowledge in Computer Science, including algorithms, data structures, and operating systems. Exposure to Software Development and Programming, with experience in at least one high-level language (Rust experience is a plus). Understanding of Back-End Web Development concepts, such as APIs, microservices, and server-side frameworks. Familiarity with Functional Programming (FP) principles and their practical application in codebases. Interest in Nix / NixOS, reproducible builds, DevOps, and infrastructure as code. Ability to learn quickly, work in a team setting, and communicate clearly about technical topics. Comfort working remotely in Germany and collaborating in a cross-functional engineering environment.
