What you'll do

  • Develop, implement, and maintain privacy policies and internal personal data protection procedures in line with GDPR, CCPA, and laws of other jurisdictions.
  • Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) for new products and features and implement a privacy-by-design approach.
  • Maintain the Records of Processing Activities (ROPA) and other mandatory documentation.
  • Handle data subject requests (DSAR), including access, deletion, and data portability.
  • Review, negotiate, and support Data Processing Agreements (DPA) with vendors, partners, and contractors.
  • Build and develop the company's compliance program for personal data protection and consumer protection, including marketing practices, subscriptions and auto-renewals, advertising, and unfair/deceptive trade practices.
  • Monitor and minimize class action litigation risks in consumer protection and data protection, including dark patterns, negative option marketing, and false advertising claims.
  • Work closely with product managers, developers, analysts, and marketing teams to implement privacy and consumer protection standards into operations.
  • Monitor legal changes in tier-1 countries, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, ePrivacy, and consumer protection legislation, and adapt the company's internal processes.
  • Conduct internal training on data protection and consumer protection compliance for company employees.
  • Provide legal support for current company operations related to privacy and consumer protection compliance.
  • Communicate with supervisory authorities, law firms, and service providers in different jurisdictions.

What they require

  • 4+ years of legal experience and 2+ years of relevant experience as a Data Protection Officer, Privacy Officer, or Consumer Protection Compliance Officer in a law firm, in-house at an IT company, or in Big 4.
  • Fluent English, including preparation of legal and compliance documents.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in law or a related field from a leading university.
  • Deep understanding of GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other international data protection frameworks.
  • Understanding of consumer protection legislation, including the FTC Act, unfair/deceptive trade practices, and negative option marketing.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changes in the regulatory environment.
  • Attention to detail and a systematic approach to building processes.
  • Initiative and willingness to work on a wide variety of privacy and consumer protection compliance tasks.
  • Ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to the business.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Preferred: International certificates such as IELTS/TOEFL.
  • Preferred: CIPP/E, CIPM, or equivalent certification.
  • Preferred: Experience conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) and building Records of Processing Activities (ROPA).
  • Preferred: Experience with consumer protection compliance issues, including marketing claims and advertising, subscriptions and auto-renewals, and unfair/deceptive trade practices.
  • Preferred: Experience assessing class action litigation risks in consumer protection and data protection in the US and EU.
  • Preferred: Experience preparing and negotiating Data Processing Agreements (DPA) with vendors and partners.
