This is a greenfield build. You'll be the founding product leader for a new country, working with a dedicated engineering team to design and launch payroll, HR, time tracking, and related products that serve Japan's complex regulatory and business environment.</p><p>As Country PM, you'll own end-to-end product strategy and execution. You'll work across compliance, engineering, payroll operations, HR, and time tracking to translate local requirements into products that work. You'll make critical trade-off decisions: what to build first, what gets deferred, and how to hit market timelines without overcommitting.</p><h2>The context</h2><p>Japan represents both significant opportunity and technical complexity. You'll be working with high-value customers who need the full Deel experience, not just a payroll engine. Their requirements will expose gaps between what works globally and what Japan actually needs. Scaling those solutions becomes the next phase.</p><p>We're building on Deel's internal infrastructure, which means you'll coordinate across multiple product teams and navigate technical complexity that a third-party vendor would hide. You own translating Japan's requirements into engineering work and prioritizing ruthlessly against your team's capacity.</p><h2>What you'll do</h2><ul><li><p>Define product strategy for the Japanese market across payroll, HR, time, and services</p></li><li><p>Work with your dedicated engineering team to execute on the roadmap</p></li><li><p>Coordinate across Product (payroll engine), Time, HRIS, and Services teams to align on dependencies</p></li><li><p>Break complex requirements into iterative pieces. Ship early, learn from customers, iterate</p></li><li><p>Own the relationship with key accounts, understanding their needs and validating your solutions</p></li><li><p>Work with sales, implementation, and local compliance teams to ensure we're building something that can scale</p></li><li><p>Think like an entrepreneur. This is a new market opportunity, and you're building the playbook from scratch</p></li><li><p>Use AI to speed up the build, getting rules in and scale in collaboration with local compliance teams.</p></li></ul><h2>What we're looking for</h2><h3>Must have:</h3><ul><li><p>Based in Asia (time zone alignment and cultural fluency matter for this role)</p></li><li><p>Fluent Japanese speaker</p></li><li><p>Comfort navigating ambiguity and making good decisions with incomplete information</p></li><li><p>Strong stakeholder management. You'll coordinate across teams and external partners</p></li><li><p>Pragmatism and systems thinking. You need to understand how payroll, HR, time tracking, and compliance fit together</p></li></ul><h3>Ideal to have:</h3><ul><li><p>Experience with Japanese payroll, tax, or labor regulations</p></li><li><p>Prior experience building payroll systems or working in payroll product roles</p></li><li><p>Track record launching new products or entering new markets</p></li><li><p>Experience with enterprise customers or complex business requirements</p></li></ul><br /><p><span><strong>Total Rewards</strong></span></p><p><span>Our workforce deserves fair and competitive pay that meets them where they are.
