What you'll do

  • Research, report, write, and edit narrative Storybank articles on a biweekly schedule
  • Identify and pitch story leads by reviewing video content, policy tracking, and news coverage
  • Propose, schedule, and conduct interviews with young state and federal lawmakers from both parties
  • Manage each article through the full production cycle (pitch to publication)
  • Maintain the Storybank editorial tracker with story status and timelines
  • Write across content streams including 'Anatomy of a Bill', 'Policy Impacts', and profiles
  • Fact-check all articles and ensure adherence to AP style and brand guidelines
  • Flag standout quotes and visuals for social media amplification
  • Be available for editorial check-ins during core hours (12-4 p.m. ET)

What they require

  • 3+ years of professional experience in features, narrative, or storytelling-driven writing
  • Portfolio of writing showing ability to turn reporting into engaging stories
  • Track record of taking writing projects from concept to publication independently
  • Strong command of AP style or ability to write within a house style guide
  • Deep interest and working knowledge of U.S. politics at state and federal levels
  • Ability to write about Republican and Democratic lawmakers with equal fairness and curiosity
  • Self-directed and highly organized with ability to hit deadlines without prompting
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity when working with lawmakers
