What you'll do

  • Secure complex pre-authorizations and prevent/appeal clinical denials
  • Interpret and apply medical necessity guidelines to determine appropriateness for services
  • Determine appropriate level of care (Inpatient or Observation) from clinical documentation
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for assigned payers and governmental payer requirements/audits (RAC, MAC, QIO)
  • Support Clinical Pre-Certification, Case Reviews, Pre-billing edits, in-patient account validations
  • Support Utilization Management, Peer to Peer processes, clinical appeals and denial management
  • Collaborate with Legal, Medical Information Management, Physician groups and the Business Office
  • Analyze payer remits, denial/remark codes, and expected reimbursement to determine cost effectiveness of appeals
  • Maintain awareness of State and National health care trends, JCAHO, CMS, and third-party payer Utilization Management guidelines

What they require

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing with current license required
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical care experience
  • Experience collaborating with physicians and their designees
  • Strong, proven analytical skills and ability to make educated decisions
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical operations and patient flow
  • Skilled at synthesizing large volumes of information and communicating concisely verbally or in writing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products, Adobe Professional, and common office technologies
  • Ability to multitask and move between applications quickly; rapid orientation to new applications
  • Ability to manage complexities of multiple applications such as IHIS, MS Office, 3M, and payer websites/applications
  • Final candidates subject to successful completion of a background check; drug screen or physical may be required
