What you'll do

  • Communicate with insureds, injured workers, agents, brokers, witnesses, attorneys, loss prevention, and underwriters to obtain and relate information needed to determine coverage, compensability, facts of loss, and liability or exposure.
  • Maintain contact throughout the life of the file as needed.
  • Administer timely, appropriate, and accurate indemnity and medical benefits.
  • Evaluate claim exposure, negotiate, and resolve claims.
  • Work closely with defense counsel on litigated cases and attend mediation, arbitration, and hearings as necessary.
  • Develop litigation plans with defense counsel and track adherence to control legal expenses and support effective resolution.
  • Work closely with insureds and employees, making visitations and presentations as needed to support claims handling partnerships.
  • Maintain quality claim files according to best practices and company procedures.
  • Implement Managed Care strategies.
  • Coordinate rehabilitation or medical management.
  • Process bills.
  • Review all mail through Image Right.
  • Monitor claim progress as appropriate.
  • Interact with State and Federal Boards and Commissions.
  • Establish and maintain proper reserves as appropriate.
  • Serve as a mentor and help prepare or train less experienced Claim Department representatives.
  • Keep up to date on state laws and company procedures relating to claims.
  • Educate injured workers and/or insureds on state laws and company procedures relating to claims.
  • Prepare and present files for Agent/Broker Reviews and Insured File Review.
  • Understand medical terminology and standard medical procedures as they pertain to workers' compensation, U.S. Longshoreman's, and Jones Act claims.
  • Participate in in-house and outside training programs to stay current on relevant issues and topics.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all computer systems currently in use.
  • Travel throughout states as required to handle assigned claims inventory.
  • Continue education in claims through Associate in Claims or Claims Law (AEI) courses.

What they require

  • Must have Florida claims license and experience.
  • Three years of workers' compensation lost time and medical only claim handling experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Computer skills preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and self-directed, with the ability to manage time, multiple priorities, and other resources wisely.
  • Ability to work effectively with other organizational team members.
