What you'll do

  • Lead and manage all civil work at substation and transmission line sites, ensuring compliance with approved drawings, specifications and construction schedules
  • Create and supervise earthwork, grading, drainage systems, access roads, cable trenches and foundations and to substation and transmission lines
  • Review, interpret and create civil design drawings, technical documents, report discrepancies and provide practical solutions
  • Manage site surveys to include geotechnical and ground/LIDAR to assist with determination of transmission line routes and substation layouts
  • Review and approve civil construction methodologies, work plans and method statements submitted by contractors
  • Identify and mitigate site issues such as geotechnical conditions, access and environmental constraints and constructability challenges by providing timely technical support
  • Coordinate closely with electrical, protection, commissioning, planning and project management to resolve interface and constructability issues
  • Interact with customer’s internal engineers and technical experts on a day-to-day basis
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients
  • Provide technical leadership to site civil engineers, inspectors, assign tasks, review work and mentor team members
  • Check and review the work sequence, general content and the methods used to generate specifications for the calculations as well as the approval, revision, retention and storage of calculations
  • Assist with developing task and effort estimates for proposal support
  • Support project commissioning and hand over by ensuring that all site civil work is completed safely and to specification
  • Understand and assist with the planning and scheduling of engineering tasks within the site civil discipline
  • Work to maintain positive working relationships with peers
  • Occasional travel required to other AECOM locations and Client sites
  • Participate in field walks and create field sketches, take dimensions, climb ladders, etc. as necessary

What they require

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Professional Engineering license (P.E.)
  • Proven experience with site grading, drainage, roads, earthworks, and substation layout development and transmission access/alignment
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation for civil design and detailing
  • Understanding of substation site planning, transmission/substation access requirements, and integration with electrical layouts
  • Sponsorship for US Employment Authorization is not available for this position
  • All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment
  • Preferred: 10+ years of relevant site civil experience with at least three of those years acting as project technical lead and/or engineer of record
  • Preferred: Strong knowledge of international civil and design standards
  • Preferred: Experience with construction supervision, site inspection, and commissioning support
  • Preferred: Knowledge of hydrological analysis tools, stormwater modeling, or civil 3D/BIM software
  • Preferred: Experience in GIS or AIS substation developments
  • Preferred: Familiarity with major utility or transmission operator standards
  • Preferred: Professional Engineering license in Civil in California
  • Preferred: Experience with California Electric Utilities
  • Preferred: Self-motivated
  • Preferred: Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Preferred: Success in working with remote teams
  • Preferred: Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish
  • Preferred: Owner’s Engineering experience
  • Preferred: Experience with retrofit or brown field projects
  • Preferred: Exposure to supporting renewable generation projects
