We are looking for a CTO to lead the technical organization behind a large-scale iGaming platform. This role combines engineering leadership with hands-on technical expertise, requiring someone who can define technology strategy, build high-performing teams, and ensure reliable delivery of scalable products while maintaining high engineering standards.
Responsibilities
- Define the engineering strategy, technical roadmap, and architectural direction, ensuring technology decisions support long-term product scalability and business objectives
- Lead, mentor, and grow an engineering organization of 15–20 developers through team leads, establishing a high-performance culture while supporting hiring, performance management, and career development
- Own engineering standards across the development lifecycle by driving code quality, participating in reviews of critical components, and promoting CI/CD, automated testing, and secure development practices
- Build transparent engineering processes with clear ownership, delivery metrics, and reporting, ensuring full visibility into team productivity, release progress, and technical risks
- Work closely with Product leadership to prioritize technical initiatives, balance feature delivery with technical debt, and ensure predictable release execution
- Oversee infrastructure strategy, cloud architecture, platform reliability, disaster recovery, incident response, and implementation of security best practices across engineering teams
- Drive technical evaluations of new technologies, vendors, and third-party integrations, supporting architectural decisions, technical due diligence, and long-term platform evolution
- Manage engineering budgets, infrastructure costs, cloud spending, and vendor relationships while identifying opportunities for operational optimization
- Partner directly with executive leadership, providing technical guidance, transparent status reporting, early risk escalation, and recommendations on strategic technology initiatives
- Ensure engineering processes align with licensing requirements, KYC/AML obligations, GDPR, audit readiness, and other applicable regulatory standards
- Lead engineering response during critical production incidents, coordinating investigation, root cause analysis, recovery activities, and implementation of preventive improvements
Requirements
- 3+ years of leadership experience within the iGaming industry (sportsbook experience is preferred)
- Proven experience leading distributed engineering teams of 10+ developers
- Strong software architecture background with the ability to make strategic technical decisions and balance technical debt with product delivery
- Ability to personally review production code and assess engineering quality rather than operating solely at a management level
- Experience establishing engineering processes that provide full visibility into delivery, productivity, and team performance
- Practical knowledge of KYC/AML implementation, licensing requirements, GDPR, and compliance-related engineering practices
- Experience managing engineering budgets, cloud infrastructure costs, and technical vendors
- Business-level English with confidence communicating directly with international partners and technology providers
- Strong knowledge of Ukrainian or Russian languages for internal communication
- Full-time commitment with exclusive availability for the role
Technical Background
- Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, and React
- Solid understanding of modern frontend development, including HTML, CSS, and frontend architecture for large-scale web applications
- Practical knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, WebSockets, and API documentation standards such as Swagger/OpenAPI
- Experience building backend services with Sequelize (or an equivalent ORM), including unit and integration testing practices
- Good understanding of relational database design and architecture using PostgreSQL and/or MySQL
- Experience working with modern development tools, including Git, npm, yarn, webpack, Docker, Docker Compose, and monitoring solutions such as Sentry
- Familiarity with messaging technologies such as RabbitMQ or Kafka, as well as search platforms including Elasticsearch
Would be a plus
- Experience working with sportsbook platforms, including live betting, cash-out, trader tools, and risk management
- Familiarity with providers such as Sportradar, Stats Perform, Genius Sports, LSports, or FeedConstruct
- Experience with streaming technologies, including Kafka, ClickHouse, and Redis Streams
- Previous work under Curaçao, Anjouan, MGA, or UKGC licensing frameworks
- Experience scaling engineering organizations from approximately 20 to 50+ engineers
