Who The Client Is: The client is an established Australian professional services firm providing accounting, tax, advisory, and financial services to individuals and small-to-medium businesses. They take a holistic, client-focused approach, delivering integrated solutions across compliance, advisory, and wealth services. Role Overview: We are seeking a highly organised, detail-oriented Australian Bookkeeper to manage day-to-day bookkeeping operations for a portfolio of clients. This role is critical to ensuring accurate financial records, timely reconciliations, reliable reporting, and smooth payroll support. You will work closely with accountants and senior team members to maintain high standards of accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all bookkeeping functions. Strong attention to detail, accountability, and proactive communication are essential, as your work will directly support client reporting, compliance, and decision-making. Key Responsibilities: Day-to-Day Bookkeeping Manage end-to-end bookkeeping for multiple Australian clients using Xero & MYOB Maintain accurate financial records, including: Bank and credit card reconciliations Accounts payable and receivable Coding of transactions Journal entries as required Reconciliations Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations across all relevant accounts. Investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly. Ensure reconciliations are accurate, complete, and audit-ready. Payroll Support Provide payroll processing and support, including: Payroll data preparation Leave tracking Superannuation calculations Payroll reconciliations Ensure payroll compliance with Australian requirements and deadlines. Reporting & Compliance Support Prepare regular financial reports, including: Profit & Loss statements Balance Sheets Cashflow reports Assist with monthly and quarterly reporting requirements. Support accountants with BAS preparation and lodgement support (where applicable). Maintain accurate records to support compliance and audit requirements. Client & Team Support Work closely with accountants and advisors to ensure smooth workflow progression. Respond to client queries related to bookkeeping and transactional matters. Proactively follow up on missing documentation and outstanding items. Maintain professional and clear communication at all times. Required Skills and Qualifications: 3+ years experience in Australian bookkeeping. Strong working knowledge of Xero. Solid understanding of Australian bookkeeping practices, including: GST BAS Payroll processing Superannuation Now Infinity Proven experience performing bank and balance sheet reconciliations. Draft Management Accounts Experience preparing management and compliance reports. Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy. Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines efficiently. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Technical & Software Requirements Strong proficiency in: Xero /XPM Now Infinity Payroll systems integrated with Xero (preferred) Comfortable using document management and workflow systems. Confident with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office. Work Arrangement & Expectations: This is a remote role that will be set up as an independent contractor engagement.
