What you'll do

  • Oversee invoicing, analyze, and report project financial status for various projects.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train accounting staff; manage workload distribution to ensure all departmental deadlines are met.
  • Perform first-level review of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements prepared by staff to ensure accuracy and GAAP compliance.
  • Identify, develop, and implement streamlined accounting procedures and internal controls to enhance department efficiency.
  • Ensure the team follows procedures and policies to facilitate effective financial reporting and compliance with Federal WIOA, local, State, and corporate policies.
  • Direct fiscal operations relating to financial planning, funds management, accounting, and reporting.
  • Lead the preparation and maintenance of project budgets, forecasts, and working capital requirements.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for senior leadership, Executive Directors and our contracts/customers, providing high-level financial insight and performance reporting.
  • Ensure that projects fulfill all financial obligations in a timely and economic manner in accordance with established policies and WIOA guidelines.
  • Coordinate accounting activities for assigned projects, including the establishment and monitoring of contract-specific procedures.
  • Oversee the processing of employee expenses, participant expenses, vendor project invoices, and program payroll analytics.
  • Manage the preparation of monthly project advance requests, invoices, and supporting documentation; interface with Workforce Boards to ensure timely payment.
  • Lead month-end closing activities, including the review of Balance Sheet reconciliations.
  • Manage annual audit deliverables and serve as the lead contact for periodic program audit requests.

What they require

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); ability to reconcile complex balance sheets and profit/loss reports.
  • Proven experience with budgeting and forecasts across multiple funding streams (specifically WIOA or government contracting) is highly preferred.
  • Advanced MS Excel and Accounting Software skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team, foster a collaborative environment, and work effectively in a virtual/remote setting.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to translate complex financial data for non-financial management and staff.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities and meet strict month-end deadlines.
  • Must possess high ethical standards and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Minimal travel required to meet Project Teams and Board Staff.
