Senior SEO and GEO Specialist

Remote Recruitment is hiring a Senior SEO and GEO Specialist for our UK-based client, an established digital marketing agency that forms part of a wider group of specialist businesses. This is a fully remote, full-time position for a South Africa based professional working UK business hours.

This is a senior seat for someone who came up through SEO and paid search and is now working at the front edge of AI search: AEO, answer engine optimisation, and GEO, generative engine optimisation. You will shape how the agency's clients appear not only in Google rankings but in ChatGPT answers, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and other AI-driven results. The role replaces a part-time freelancer, so you will take a function that is currently thinly covered and make it properly your own.

SEO

Own SEO strategy and delivery across a portfolio of agency client accounts.

Technical SEO: audits, crawlability and indexation, site architecture, Core Web Vitals, redirects, schema and structured data.

On-page and content: keyword and intent research, topical authority planning, metadata and internal linking at scale.

Off-page: authority building, digital PR and outreach.

Report to clients in the language of results rather than activity.

AEO and GEO, the AI search half

Build and lead the agency's AEO and GEO capability.

Optimise clients to be surfaced and recommended in answer engines, so that when someone asks an AI assistant for the best provider in a category, our clients are in the answer.

Optimise for citation in generative results: trusted source signals, entity SEO, structured and easily parsed data, llm.txt and AI crawler considerations.

Track and grow AI-referred visibility across ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude.

Translate a fast-moving field into practical strategy the agency can sell and deliver.

Paid search

Plan, run and optimise Google Ads and wider PPC campaigns across client accounts.

Manage meaningful ad budgets with clear ownership of return on investment and return on ad spend.

Bid and budget management, ad copy testing, landing page and Quality Score improvement.

Client and account ownership

Manage your own client accounts end to end and work directly with senior client stakeholders.

Work alongside the design and web team so that search requirements land in the build rather than being retrofitted.

Requirements

Essential

Minimum five years in SEO, the majority of it agency side.

Demonstrable ownership of your own client accounts.

Hands-on paid search experience across Google Ads and PPC, including responsibility for real ad budgets.

Technical SEO capability, not only content and keywords.

Quantified results you can talk through and defend: organic traffic growth, visibility, rankings, conversions, revenue or return on ad spend.

Strong reporting and analysis in GA4 and Google Search Console, plus at least one of Semrush, Ahrefs or Screaming Frog.

Excellent written and spoken English and confidence working directly with clients.

Reliable fibre or LTE internet, a working laptop and a quiet, dedicated home workspace.

Highly desirable

Direct AEO or GEO experience: AI Overviews, LLM visibility, entity SEO, structured data for AI parsing, brand citation signals or AI crawler analysis.

Experience across multiple markets or international clients.

Google Ads and Google Analytics certification.

Experience in a digital marketing agency that also builds websites.

A note on AEO and GEO: anyone who is expert in AEO and GEO will have come through SEO, so these skills sit on top of a proper SEO foundation. If you have deep senior SEO and paid search and you are actively moving into AI search, we would still like to hear from you.
